Dustin Poirier -VS- Justin Gaethje post fight review

in #sport7 years ago (edited)

Last nights five round main event was nothing short of magnificent, both guys went out there and put it all on the line for 4 hard rounds untill the fight eventually succumb to to a vicious knockout blow delivered by Porrier, which was followed by a flurry of shots which led to referee Herb Dean calling a stop to the fight at 4:24 of the fourth round.

Gaethje came out of the gate hard and was delivering viscous inside leg kicks over and over again, it was looking like those leg kicks were going to be a deciding factor in the fight, as Dustin couldn't put any weight on his back leg, which led to him losing a lot of his striking power.

Normally when a fighter is dealing with dangerous leg kicks, their go to move would be to take their opponent down to the ground , but when you're fighting Gaethje (an all American Wrestler), that just simply is not an option, so instead Dustin bit down on his mouth piece, remained composed and landed an insane volume of punches throughout the fight, eventually leading him to the TKO victory, in what was easily the biggest win of his career.

Round by Round Stats

Here are the fight stats round by round, and then the overall fight stats at the end, you can see the insane volume of punches thrown by Poirier, while most were simply light jabs, they add up a lot, and it would have especially done him favors if the fight went to a decision, which was very unlikely.

Full fight Stats

All in all it was yet again another fight of the year contender for Gaethje, and a serious message to the Lightweight division for Porrier, there's some big things coming for both guys in the future, both guys walked away better off in my opinion, MMA in general benefits from a war like that, and it was an absolute pleasure to watch.

Thanks for the post dude, my internet is really bad and I haven’t managed to watch the full fight. I watched the ko! Wow it sounds like an epic war, I need to watch the whole thing! Was Dustin winning throughout in your opinion?

Also, what did condit look like? Sucks to see him loose, I wonder what he’s got left?

Aw man, you're in for a treat when you get to watch the full fight, it was insane. In my opinion Gaethje was the dominant fighter throughout, Porrier had his moments, and while he was landing a huge volume of punches, they were just taps, every single shot gaethje threw was with pure bad intentions, he was going 100 mph the whole fight, he seems to just get to comfortable later on in there and gets caught.
Condit looked amazing man, he's definitely back on form, he just got caught in a submission, it could have happened to any guy in that division, Oleveira was in top form too.

Ah sweet I can’t wait to watch the full fight! I just watched some pretty good highlights and dam! What a war! Those leg kicks porier ate were straight savage!

Cool I’m a fan of condit I hope he doesn’t pack it in, I remember him saying a while back he was considering hanging it up

Two pure savages, you'll enjoy it man. Yeah Condit has been unsure for a while, he looked great last night tho before the submission.

yes it was full of fun there..specially in secound round i enjoyed.and both justin and dustin are my favrout...

Yeah man the second round was insane, what an insane fight, all of Gaethje's fights are like that, it's so crazy. I've always liked Dustin, and even more so last after last night.

really ....but it is true that both fight very well.

100% two absolute warriors.

Awesome review man! Felt the event lived up to our expectations, sad to see Condit get finished but I didn't fancy that fight for him. Guys still one of my favourites though.

The main event was nuts, Gaethje just doesn't care about taking damage. He covers up and ducks his head but never for long and seems to love taking shots to the face. I was real impressed by Poirier, the leg kicks caused him problems but he was able to somehow keep going and retain enough power to finish Gaethje.

Him calling out Khabib is pretty interesting too, that could be a great fight too. Lightweight is such a great weight class!

Also, how do you manage to get things to centre? Been trying to figure that out for a while to help my posts look better but had no luck.

Thanks man, I think I'm going to stick to posts like this in the future. Man Gaethje is a savage, but I think his style will make him breaking the top 5 very very difficult.
To centre anything in your article just post it like this in the HTML < center > whatever you wanna type < / center > (without the spaces). If you need any tips don't be afraid to ask man :D

Yeah his style will be bad for his long term health too. But fun to watch always.

Thank you, I did find a post someone did a while ago and while some stuff worked their way to centre didn't. I will have a crack at that next time I write something.

No problem man, let me know once you've uploaded it and I'll check it out :D

Boxing, a masculine sport.. I like it.

Haha, these boys can grapple too, there was no need for it last night tho.

I know it sucks, and they were nearly the exact opposite of my picks haha. I knew Gaethje Porrier was gonna end in the 4th.

Second round was awesome @thecryptkeeper thank you for sharing this post 👍😊

It was so good, no prb man, thanks for commenting.

Vote back my friend
I @syanaa hehehe

Ohhhh wow finally i watch its look amazing.....;)

It was amazing fight, check it out if you get a chance for sure.

definately i saw.... :)

It was awesome :D

landed an insane volume of punches throughout the fight, eventually leading him to the TKO victory, in what was easily the biggest win of his career.

I was off by one round. Shit. I picked 3rd round tko, he got 4th.

Dustin Poirier def. Justin Gaethje via fourth-round TKO (0:33)
Alex Oliveira def. Carlos Condit via submission (R2, 3:17)
Israel Adesanya def. Marvin Vettori via split decision
Michelle Waterson def. Cortney Casey via split decision

Called Poirier
Called Adesanya (solid fight)
Called Waterson (solid fight)

Genuinely shocked by Condit getting submitted... He hasn't been the same since losing to GSP (in my opinion). His heart is not in the sport anymore, time for him to hang those gloves up and coach some of the newer guys as he is too experienced and knowledgeable in the sport not to coach.
