Arsenal FC: Will Lacazette fire the Gunners back into the CL?

in #sport7 years ago

Introduction

After eyeing the French international for seasons upon seasons, the North London club have finally secured the signature of Alexandre Lacazette, on a long-term 5 year contract. An initial bid was rejected by his now-former club, Olympique Lyonnais earlier on in the summer however, an increased offer of a club-record £52.7m (with future add-ons) proved to be sufficient.

Once the 2016/17 season had ended, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid were favourites to sign the French striker although, due to an issued transfer ban to Madrid, Arsenal were favourites to secure Lacazette.

Player Statistics

Over the last three seasons during his time at Lyon, the French forward has managed to bag himself over 20 goals in each campaign.

  • 2014/15 - 27 Goals
  • 2015/16 - 23 Goals
  • 2016/17 - 35 Goals

His prolific goal scoring record adds to Arsenal what fans have been craving for since the departure of Robin Van Persie, after he joined rivals Manchester United, in 2012.

What should we expect from him next season?

With the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the attack, there is no doubt that plenty of chances will be created for the French striker. Since the formation change after the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the second half of the season, the North London club have had a successive run towards the end. However, Olivier Giroud had been heavily criticised as many fans believed he slowed the pace of the attack.

Therefore, the pacey and agile attributes that Lacazette can offer in the upcoming seasons may yield a lot more success and may fire Arsenal back to the UEFA Champions League
