A heroic Madrid defeats Unicaja, breaking the three-point record-23-03-2025
It’s hard to understand how Unicaja, the Copa and Supercopa champions, managed to score 105 points, break the historical three-point record of the league with 23 (out of 43 attempts, an impressive 53%), go up by 12 points at the end of the third quarter, and despite continuing to score (5 three-pointers in the last quarter and 27 points), ended up losing to Madrid 105-107 after conceding 39 points in the final 10 minutes, with a completely atypical lineup from the opposing team.

A Madrid squad that played with Rathan-Mayes (who had been sidelined for four games due to a technical decision) and Andrés Feliz due to Campazzo’s injury, with Garuba leading the defense (8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 18 points) playing as the center instead of Tavares, and with Hezonja (another 18 points) and especially Musa (24 points and 6 assists for a 37 rating) completely tipping the balance in a game that was tied for several minutes.

The five players mentioned were key in countering the great performances of Dylan Osetkowski (22 points with 6 of 7 from three) and Tyson Carter (24 points and 5 of 11 from three), who, in a twist of fate, missed the game-winning three-pointer at the last second, on a day when no other team had scored as many since the three-point line was established at 6.25 meters in 1984 (a distance that was moved to 6.75 meters in 2010).
