The Spiritual Disease of Modern Man
Today in our modern age, the human race has accomplished things that were beyond our ancestor’s wildest dreams. We have built huge cities and industries, creating riches that surpass imagination. Science enables us to understand some of life’s deepest mysteries and technology has given us the power to shape matter.
Materialistically we live in abundance, however during our pursuit of progress we have fallen victim to a spiritual disease. Our relentless demand for information in order to control and conquer has caused us to forget our purpose.
Power, dominance and greed have infected the spirit, and what it truly means to be human is quickly being forgotten.
Thought replaced by procedure, compassion replaced by competition and the soul cast to the realms of superstition.
The consequences of this mindset are clear. As Iain Mcgilchrist a Neuroscientist who has done fascinating research on the Brain Hemispheres and their impact on society recently said; “Over recent years, urbanization, globalization and the destruction of local cultures has led to a rise in the prevalence of mental illness in the developing world.”
However, there is no light without darkness and it appears to me that we are in a state of transition. Collectively humanity is realising there is more to life than what we have been taught.
Manly P. Hall in the Secret Teachings of all ages foresaw this period when he stated; “Though the modern world may know a million secrets, the ancient world knew one – and that one was greater than the million; for the million secrets breed death, disaster, sorrow, and selfishness, but the one secret confers life, light and truth. The time will come when the secret wisdom shall again be the dominating religious and philosophical urge of the world.”
As we proceed through this change our collective shadow rises to the surface and it is now more than ever we require true knowledge and guidance to enable the creation of a better future.
In alignment with one of the great Hermetic Tenets, we must first look within, in order to change that which is without. “As above, so below.”
Over the next few blog posts I am going to explore Ancient Philosophy, Modern Psychology and Science to hopefully open up some new perspectives and ideas that can help towards building a better world.
I have spent the last two years studying various schools of thought and am currently living in Amsterdam spending some time at the Embassy of the Free Mind, which is home to some of the rarest and most special books on Philosophy and Esoteric Wisdom.
Hopefully you shall enjoy my next few posts and I hope to hear from people who are interested in expanding their consciousness and exploring the inner self!
