Examination of Fear
If you look at the news or social media, you can see how much fear we are living in. We have collective fears and individualized fears, which go hand-in-hand. When a person is responding with fear, what most people do not see is that it is usually based and deeply-rooted in a traumatic experience they have had. To some it may seem that they are over-acting or acting irrationally, yet the reality is that most of our fears are protected and buried deep within us. They hold hidden emotional memory and negative harmful energy, they have been carried throughout our lifetime and will remain there until we intend to clear them. And so, they are packaged and stored away, remaining dormant until they are activated by something we see, smell, hear, taste or touch.
For any persons that have survived abuse and trauma, they know all too well what fear is. Sadly, when others inflict their power over us and we feel taken advantage of, it gives birth to fear. Most people are unaware that these powerful experiences can make changes to the memory in our cells. And thus, we are forever changed by the trauma, holding on to that emotional memory throughout our lives until we become aware of it and learn to clear it.
In order to clear emotional memory, we must understand fear, and to do that, we must first examine the concept of power. We have many powers in this world, such as political power, bosses, parents, school officials, life-partners, etc. Some of these are good and some are not. The most important power we possess is our own personal power. When someone opens our mind to the awful experiences of abuse in all its forms, we begin to lose ourselves and most importantly our power. This dominance steers us away from our inner knowing and we begin to believe the world is not safe. To understand our fear, it is equally important to uncover what we give power to. Through the path of self-discovery, we look for the people, places, events, and circumstances that hold power over us. With a deep and honest approach you will be able to recognize these powers, the fear they cause and why you fear them.
Luckily, the universe will aid you in your healing by providing you new experiences to help you analyze your belief systems. Take each and every opportunity (especially the ugly and the bad), to help you heal and bring back your personal power to you. When you feel resistance, lean into the uncomfortable feelings. Make the feelings big and take a long, deep, laser-focused look at them. Ask yourself why you are feeling this way?
Because you have protected and buried these beliefs and experiences all this time, nothing your uncover will be an absolute shock to you. Instead, they will be familiar; like a long lost friend. Once you can see your beliefs, ask yourself, “with the understanding and knowledge I have today, is this true?” By knowing what you have given your power to, your fears will begin to dissolve because it has no belief to hold on to. As a result, you will begin to think more clearly and have more compassion for yourself.
After examining your fears, you will still have things that trigger you, yet your response will be different. It will not be rooted in fear, you will stay more grounded and you will be able to keep your personal power.
