Me es grato compartir con ustedes una experiencia que me lleno de conocimientos y satisfacción sobre el escultismo y como aportar a la formación de jóvenes en Venezuela. En mi caso lleve a mi hijo menor a observar en una plaza cercana a nuestra residencia, como un grupo Scout realizaba sus actividades y al ver que ellos disfrutaban mucho, mi esposa y yo decidimos incorporar a nuestro hijo en estas actividades. Lo que nos motivó a unirnos al grupo, es que a diferencia de nuestra infancia en la que crecimos en casa rodeados de amigos de barrio y jugábamos después de la escuela, todo tipo de juegos como, volar papagayos, el escondido, la ere. En fin eran tantos los juegos que inventamos que no los recuerdo todos. Si recuerdo que mi madre se cansaba de llamarme para que viniera a bañarme y cenar, pero tenía que enviar a mi hermana mayor a buscarme. Recuerdo que nos divertíamos tanto que la escuela era como un trabajo y que la verdadera diversión estaba en el patio cerca de la casa donde nos reuníamos a jugar, baseball, football, baskett, pelotica de goma, incluso convertíamos un cartón de jugo en pelota amarrándola con teipe.

My experience as a member of the Scouts of Venezuela group

I am pleased to share with you an experience that fills me with knowledge and satisfaction about scouting and how to contribute to the formation of young people in Venezuela. In my case I took my youngest son to observe in a square near our residence, as a Scout group carried out their activities and seeing that they enjoyed it very much, my wife and I decided to incorporate our son in these activities. What motivated us to join the group is that unlike our childhood in which we grew up at home surrounded by neighborhood friends and played after school, all kinds of games like, flying parrots, hiding, the ere. In short there were so many games that we invented that I do not remember them all. If I remember that my mother got tired of calling me to come to take a bath and have dinner, but I had to send my older sister to look for me. I remember that we had so much fun that school was like a job and that the real fun was in the yard near the house where we used to play, baseball, football, basket, rubber ball, we even turned a cardboard of juice into a ball by mooring it with teipe.

Bueno al comparar esto con la vida que hoy podemos ofrecerle a nuestros hijos, encontramos que difícilmente viviendo en edificios logremos que se organicen los niños de la residencia para que jueguen en grupo. Pero al ver a los Scouts compartir con los niños las mismas o actividades parecidas a los juegos de mi infancia, le dije que teníamos que darle esta experiencia a mis hijos.

Well, when comparing this with the life that we can offer our children today, we find that, hardly living in buildings, we can organize the children of the residence to play in groups. But when I saw the Scouts share with the children the same or similar activities as my childhood games, I told them that we had to give this experience to my children.

Los Scouts están organizados en tres grandes grupos Manada ( niños de 7 a 11 años) , tropa (Jóvenes de 11 a 16 años) y Clan ( Jóvenes de 16 a 21 años). Mi hijo entro en manada y al compartir con el grupo su cambio fue inmediato de ser un niño callado y tímido paso a ser conversador y alegre. Atribuyó este cambio a la interacción con los dirigentes y compañeros de su grupo, que a través de lo que ellos llaman un método no formal de educación, imparten conocimientos sobre nuestra cultura y valores a los niños apoyados en la fábula del libro de la selva donde se ambientan las actividades.

The Scouts are organized into three large groups: Manada (children from 7 to 11 years old), troops (Youth from 11 to 16 years old) and Clan (Youth from 16 to 21 years old). My son went into a pack and when he shared with the group his change was immediate from being a quiet and shy child to being talkative and cheerful. He attributed this change to the interaction with the leaders and colleagues of his group who, through what they call a non-formal method of education, import knowledge about our culture and values to the children supported in the fable of the jungle book where the activities.

Después de un tiempo los dirigentes de Grupo Scout nos explican que es un grupo de para los jóvenes pero que se necesitan adultos con ciertas condiciones para o bien formarse como dirigentes o apoyar en las actividades con logística y recursos. En ese momento sentí la necesidad retribuir a la sociedad con este voluntariado que podrá ayudar a más jóvenes.

After a while the leaders of the Scout Group explain to us that it is a group for young people but that adults with certain conditions are needed to either train as leaders or support activities with logistics and resources. At that time I felt the need to give back to society with this volunteering that can help more young people.

Así es como decido asistir al curso básico de formación donde nos orientan sobre el modelo de educación no formal, ya que el formal es la escuela. Nos explicaron varios conceptos que en nuestra sociedad resultan al polémicos, como el tema de religión, ya que en principio este movimiento lo que te pide es que demuestres que profesas tu religión, sea cual sea. En el caso del grupo que participamos la mayoría de religión Católica pues lo demostramos asistiendo a nuestra misa de los domingos y demostrar ser un buen ciudadano.

This is how I decide to attend the basic training course where we are guided on the non-formal education model, since the formal one is the school. They explained to us several concepts that in our society result in controversial issues such as religion, since in principle this movement asks you to demonstrate that you profess your religion, whatever it may be. In the case of the group that we participate in, the majority of the Catholic religion, because we showed it by attending our Sunday Mass and demonstrating to be a good citizen.

En el breve tiempo que preste mis servicios como voluntario me integre como dirigente de Clan y lo que básicamente realizábamos, era el seguimiento del scout en su plan de desarrollo para convertirse en un Rover ciudadano lo cual es la máxima insignia. Esto requirió un gran esfuerzo de nuestra parte porque como dirigentes debemos estar presentes en la vida del Rover , es decir, visitar su casa, hablar con su familia y con él para asesorar y motivarlo a trazar un plan de actividades que demuestre que es un buen ciudadano.

In the short time that I volunteer my services as a Clan leader and what we basically do is track the scout in his development plan to become a citizen Rover which is the flagship. This required a great effort on our part because as leaders we must be present in the life of the Rover, that is, visit his house, talk with his family and with him to advise and motivate him to draw up a plan of activities that shows that it is a good citizen.

Por razones de trabajo tuve que ausentarme del movimiento pero me dejo un gran aprendizaje y la gran satisfacción de dejar grandes amigos jóvenes que me saludan en la calle con gran afecto y respeto por estar allí y apoyarlos cuando lo necesitaron. En conclusión es que debemos pasar por nuestra sociedad y dejarla mejor con respecto a la forma que la recibimos.

For reasons of work I had to leave the movement but I leave a great learning and the great satisfaction of leaving great young friends who greet me in the street with great affection and respect for being there and support them when they needed it. In conclusion is that we must go through our society and leave it better with respect to the way we receive it.
