Fernando I (1345-1383)
Rey de Portugal llamado el Hermoso, hijo y sucesor de Pedro el Justiciero(1367). Promulgó. para fomento de la agricultura y del comercio, leyes progresistas que se supone fueron inspiradas por la burguesía, pero pasó la mayor parte de su reinado en guerra con Enrique de Trastámara. rey de Castilla, y sucesor Juan I. a quienes pretendía suplantar y que por tres veces, en 1371, 1373 y 1381, lo obligaron a firmar tratados de paz. Las concesiones que debió hacer dejaron a su reino sumido en la mayor miseria. Su esposa, Leonor Téllez de Meneses, mujer ambiciosa que ejercía sobre el rey un completo dominio, contribuyó también a hacerlo impopular. La muerte del rey fue un alivio para sus súbditos.
