Thinking of moving to Sao Paulo or Medellin, consider this.

I just want to share with you my experience living and working in 3 different Latin American cities and compare the pro's and con's to each. Let's start with Sao Paulo, Brazil. One of my favorites, not because of the proximity to some amazing beaches, awesome parties and beautiful women, although all of those things do add to it's charm but because of the mentality of the Brazilian population. In my view, the people are fearless of each other and are able to generate a strong empathy towards one another very easily. They are so easy to talk to and understand that you will fall in love with this place.
It's not the most beautiful city but the human spirit there is something comparable to New York. A cosmopolitan center with over 20 million inhabitants. Sao Paulo is da bomb. If you love socializing and meeting people, you will find an authentic human vibe from Brazil, albeit the social and economic problems, Brazilian people still generate the most intense human feeling and connection that I have ever experienced. Living in a city like Medellin, Colombia for example doesn't compare. The people are superficially friendly and most people don't understand the concept of small talk or talking just to talk to get to know someone new, to learn something new or see the world from a new perspective. In Medellin there is usually only a few topics people can handle talking about and that is business, soccer or girls. So yea it's a pretty superficial society. If you value human connection and meeting new people you will find yourself dissatisfied living in Medellin, although the quality of living is quite good and your dollars or euros will go quite far. Meeting people casually, in a non work or school environment is quite difficult and almost impossible. So Let me know your experiences, have you lived more than a year in one of these places? what have your experiences been? IMG_2038.JPG

I lived in São Paulo for a year, and I quite liked the city. It's a shame it's too expensive to live there.
