Song of the day: Symphony No. 7 in A major, Op. 92 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
The composer began work on this symphony in 1811 while in the spa town of Teplice in Bohemia in the hope of regaining his health. Dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries the work has four singular movements.
It was completed in 1812, dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered by the composer himself in Vienna on December 8, 1813.
In four movements, the first of them "Poco sostenuto - Vivace", begins with a long introduction, followed by the triumphant Vivace in sonata form. The second movement, "Allegretto", slower than the others, is also the most famous piece of this symphony, a theme of double variations. In which two melodies are superposed and varied in different instrumentations in the first section. One of the deepest songs written by the composer, remit us to a Funebre March inspired by the Passacaglias, with the refinement of the fugues by J. S. Bach.
"Presto - Assai meno presto" is a Scherzo (that means joking), here he does an expansion of the ternary form A-B-A, to A-B-A-B-A. Something common in Beethoven's other works in this period, such as the third movements of his 4th, 6th symphony, and his String Quartet Op. 59 n2. In section B, it takes a darker color in contrast to A, especially in its second, and varied repetition.
The fourth and last movement "Allegro con brio", written in sonata form, as well as the first, but without the slow introduction, is of great rhythmic and melodic contrast, in which the main theme is a variation of another work wrote by Beethoven, Save me from the grave and wise, No. 8 of his Twelve Irish Folk Songs, WoO 154. That we can hear in this symphony from the 36 minutes of this masterful interpretation of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam under the regency of Iván Fischer, held in January 2014.
This is one of my favorite orchestral works, as Richard Wagner in his book "The Art Work of the Future and Other Works", I would say is, it is a song in which "Melody and Harmony unite around the strong bones of Rhythm. " Here rhythm is the main contrasting skeleton by which the work is traveled, very strong. In this travel, melody, harmony, and counterpoint, sometimes function as firm structures like the great members, and others, as elastic structures that unites them.
I hope you enjoy = D

No. 8 of his Twelve Irish Folk Songs, WoO 154.
