I know we've been freezing our collective butts off in Europe, North America, and northern Asia, but today is the official start of Winter in the northern hemisphere. It's also the Winter Solstice.
In honour of this astronomical event, let's show off this giant ball of fire in our sky.

I witnessed this scene on the way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. The dry dusty air in the desert area gave the sunset a special look. =) I also like how the lines of lamp posts stretched towards the golden globe.

This is an incredible photo of the sun. I also live the silhouetted street lights. Awesome!
I was thinking about submitting this photo in the yesterday´s theme (freedom) but eventually decided to go for a natural shot that is more freedom-symbolical to me. Not to deprive you of the shot of the Statue of Liberty that I took from the ferry going to Manhattan though, I am using it as my entry for today :) Have a great weekend everyone!

Perfect timing for this shot! I've been on that Manhattan-Staten Island ferry and I know how unlikely it is for this to happen. (I'm following you around the world haha).

Hi! It’s Friday evening. I just arrived backed to Nongkhai today. So, I went out for my evening walk after I fed all the cats. It’s peaceful and calm by the river. I was lucky as I managed to catch the sun before it went to bed. The surrounding energy and the river really made me feel much better after the long train journey.
The funny thing was that the sun seemed to be leaking it’s energy and colours onto the sky.

The sun looks like it's going to drop into the water. Amazing shot.
After a trip to Geysir and Gullfoss, around 100km from Reykjavik, I saw a real icelandic sunset. The sun exactly between the cloud and clean sky part offers a great spectacle. Cold weather but heats the heart :)

Jakoze tu je zima ale ten vyhled te zahřeje u srdíčka nee. Kapor asi nebude uvidime co vymyslime. Oni tady ji prase a milion dalsich jidel co my jime pres rok.
:D ja radšej 30 C na slniečku.. ale výhľad super!
Tak snad niečo vyšpekulujete a budete mať pekné vianoce, my dnes zohnali "skoro kapra" ;)

My picture si from a frozen winter Iceland. Winter sunsets in the south west part of Iceland are unique. The sun is trying to slowly hide behind the mountain. All colours around were spectacular! We had to stop the car and we were watching till the end.
