Can there ever be gender equality?

"Gender equality, equality between men and women, entails the concept that all human beings, both men and women, are free to develop their personal abilities and make choices without the limitations set by stereotypes, rigid gender roles and prejudices. Gender equality means that the different behaviour, aspirations and needs of women and men are considered, valued and favoured equally. It does not mean that women and men have to become the same, but that their rights, responsibilities and opportunities will not depend on whether they are born male or female. Gender equity means fairness of treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatmentor treatment that is different but which isconsidered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations and opportunities."— ABC Of Women Worker's Rights And Gender Equality, ILO, 2000.". Most religion frown against women leading the congregation as they are seeing as lesser being to men, even the Holy Books we inherited never supports equality between men ND women, one is placed above the other which is Man. But what's all the hues and cries this days about gender equality? The mentality of women of nowadays have changed to the extent that you hardly find a happy home this days or marriages lasting more than 5years all in the name of women wanting to be on the same level as men thereby believing in the saying "what a man can do, a woman can do better ". I think the world was fun to live in when our mothers don't see themselves as equal to there husbands which brought about so many leaders today because there's peace in the home they grew up. There's one thing about technology changing the world but I think women seeing themselves at the same level as men is ruining the world more. I'm not saying they should be ignored or look down upon, please don't get me wrong but I think they should know there place and be contented so the world can stop producing wife beaters because they couldn't tolerate the high level of disrespect from there wife. I've never seen my dad raised his hand against my mum or anyone in the community I grew up in and neither have I ever witnessed any of my friends family did such. Also,judging from the position they've held so far because the society was forced to bend to the so called gender equality, they ended up doing bad, Nigeria, my country is a typical example. God has placed us men above them, so why are they trying to be equal? That's how their covetiousness starts. So the question still remains "can there ever be equality between men and women? Thanks
