Social media have been an essential part of human life and advancements because of the fact that it make less human efforts towards communication. Distance is now not an excuse to get socialize with others. Socializing as online chattings and tweeting posts and sharing others opinions or pictures. Others would give their own reactions about certain topics or literally give emojis as a symbol on what they feel. Some individuals would share their feelings by posting publicly to raise awareness or just to gain attention. Many people nowadays would spend their time doing this things and could even soak their whole day using social media apps. Facebook for example is now the most commonly used social media instrument or app for chatting persons or video chatting them with just one click.

If the person is not online, facebook created games to avoid boredom,for example the game called everwing which can be a great way to consume their time waiting for the person’s response or feedback. People even created pages for entertainment purposes like sharing funny videos and posting funny or interesting articles that would take people’s attention and gain a lot of viewers. By this, people have become so attracted to the world of social media that it causes them to be dependent on it. For example, people have been relying on social media to confess their feeling towards another individual because a person feel more comfortable and braver than talking to them in person. Private talks can become public by posting their conversations online. Everything that an individual post is monitored by the people they friended with. Being dependent on social media is very dangerous for even fake news spread easily.

Being on the phone or computer for a long a hour or a day can be dangerous to an individual’s health. It decreases body’s physical performance by staying on bad posture for long hours and can be bad for the spinal cord if it becomes a hobby or a lifestyle. Staying awake using phones past bedtime can be harmful to the body, science explain that staying awake too much can result into illness like diabetes and heart disease. On the other side, using phone too much for social media purposes can lead to phone driving accidents. 1.6 million cases have been recorded related to phone driving accidents and still rising.

Emotionally speaking, cyber bullying that is occuring on social media can be destructive too for the young ones that are using social media apps. It creates a mentality on the children that is harmful and can be a cause of suicide. Children that are victim to this cyberbullying may not experience physical hurt but emotionally they are oppressed. Cyberbullying is not a light thing that can be easily ignored, in fact in our present time, cyber bullying is a crime. Black mailing or threatening is a type of cyber bullying which is one of the worst case that a child experience. On special cases, children with disabilities can be isolated in social media and experience loneliness. Face to face communicating skills also decreases due to the fact that children spent more time in online activities. And lastly, social media can be an instrument to get information that are supposed to be private for example, house addresses or phone numbers. This can be a great opportunity for thieves to break in your house or do bad things when too much information is exposed.

Remember to keep things that are private and be careful of being exposed to much on social media. Social media is not bad but too much use is. Have some family time to communicate and lessen hours exposed on social media. Always remember that face to face conversation is better than chatting online. For social media can also hide one’s attitude in person. But of course, the true use of social media is to communicate to people that are far and cannot be reached. Not to be a virtual world where one can use to escape reality.
