All Snoop'ed out to usher in the Year of the Dog
Every Chinese Lunar New Year, a particular zodiac animal for that year will be especially popular.
This includes any cartoon character portraying the animal e.g. Bugs Bunny during the Year of the Rabbit, Mickey Mouse during the Year of the Rat etc.
The upcoming Year of the Dog this year is no different. So what's the current cartoon character that's being projected in shopping malls to usher in the Chinese New Year?
You guessed it. None other than Snoopy that lovable dog from the Peanuts comic strip.
As a child, I used to read the latest Peanuts comic strip appearing in the daily papers and I even own a small collection of Snoopy figurines myself.
So when we heard of the “Tour the World with Snoopy” exhibition ongoing at AVANI Sepang Gold Coast Resort, my fiance and me decided to take a drive out to Sepang to check out the exhibit last Saturday.
The drive took us around 1 and a half hours from Puchong to Sepang in late morning traffic.
Road signages to AVANI Sepang were clear although quite small that if you didn't look out carefully for it, you would miss it. Nonetheless, trusty Waze would take you there.
After an uneventful drive, we arrived at the resort but had to park a few hundred metres away from the entrance due to lack of parking space nearby. We found a nice spot to park next to Bagan Lalang Beach where a few photo moments were captured on camera.
The exhibition consisted of various Snoopy figurines around 3 feet in height, dressed in national costume of several nations around the world, consistent with the theme "Tour the World with Snoopy".
There is no entrance fee. The exhibition is free of charge.
The first few Snoopy figurines we came across were those positioned beside Bagan Lalang beach part of which the resorts open air "water park" was located.
The other figurines were stationed inside the resort proper and were arranged neatly in rows near the main entrance to the lobby with 2 figurines separately guarding the entrance to the annex building housing a Chinese Restaurant.
A booth selling Snoopy and Chinese New Year merchandise with Snoopy Chracter printed on it was setup beside the Chinese Restaurant.
A Snoopy decorated golf buggy was also being used to ferry around resort guests who were less inclined to walk.
Apart from this, there was nothing much to see or do which was a little disappointing because we had expected more. It was after all, a pretty long drive down to the coast from the city.
My two cents is unless you intend to come to the Resort or Bagan Lalang Beach for a short holiday, or you or your family member is a huge fan of Snoopy, the long journey here just to see the exhibit might not be so worth it.
The pictures turned out alright however, because the weather was mighty warm and the sun was scorching and brilliantly bright that afternoon.
So if you intend to take the family out here for a short getaway, do pick a day with fine weather to ensure great photos.
Below are more shots we took that day.
Little did we know that a journalist from one of the Chinese local daily was also secretly taking our photo while I was posing for one with my fiance. Screenshot below of the evidence taken off the online news portal when a friend alerted me to it.
Hope you enjoyed the photos!
