Blueberry, Strawberry, Banana and Kiwi Fruit Smoothie

in #smoothie8 years ago (edited)

As part of my new healthy lifestyle I have been making the effort to get down to the beach as often as I can as I love taking long walks along the shoreline.

This is Westward Ho! beach where I visited today - Westward Ho! is a seaside village in North Devon and the name comes from the title of Charles Kingsley's famous novel Westward Ho! (written in 1855), which was set in nearby Bideford where I live. Westward Ho! is the only place name in the whole of the British Isles that has an exclamation mark at the end of its name.

This is one of my favourite places to be:

All that walking was thirsty work, so as soon as I got home I made one of my delicious smoothies.

Today I used:

• Organic bananas
• Strawberries
• Blueberries
• Kiwi Fruit
• Spinach
• Hemp milk or you can use coconut milk

So in my previous smoothie post I gave some information about the health benefits of bananas, strawberries, kiwi fruit and spinach which you can see here.

In today’s smoothie I have also included blueberries which are full of nutrients and have the highest antioxidant capacity out of all fresh fruit. They are full of vitamins C, B, E, A, and copper, selenium, zinc, sodium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese.

Blueberries neutralise free radicals that can affect disease and aging in the body. They have been proven to preserve vision, they slow down visual loss and can help to protect against all age related problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts.

Blueberries aid digestion, reduce belly fat, they help with constipation and they promote urinary tract health. Lastly, blueberries are great for brain health, heart disease, and protection against cancer.

For your smoothie, add all of your ingredients to your blender.

Instead of adding plain water today, I used hemp milk which gave my smoothie a delicious creamy taste. I love using non-dairy milk as it is nutritious, tasty and so good for you - being packed full of amino acids and the essential fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6. The most important factor for me in using non-dairy milk is that it is produced without harm to any other living being.

Blend your ingredients and there you have your smoothie!

I hope you enjoy, and follow me for more recipes to come! :o)
