SK Sembulan: An Overview

SK Sembulan is located at Kampung Sembulan, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah The school has been established since 1947, which was known previously as Government Vernacular Primary School, Jesselton and the name later was changed into Government Primary School, Sembulan in the year 1952. The name of SK Sembulan was only changed after Sabah united with Tanah Melayu to form Malaysia in the year 1963. The school is currently governed by Puan Sabariah Binti Hj Haris since 13th April 2018, the 18th headteacher in the list since the school has been established.

Currently, there are 84 teachers with 19 male and 65 female teachers in total, who are working hard in providing the best learning experience for the students. The school accommodates 1331 students, including the pre-schoolers and students under the Integrated Special Education Program. The students are mostly the residents of Kampung Sembulan. The school is equipped with various facilities that are purposeful to meet the students’ learning needs and also helping the students in their self-development. Some of the facilities are Resource Centre, Science Lab, Visual Arts Room, Guidance and Counselling Unit Room, Health Room and Disciplinary Unit Room.

SK Sembulan is well-known for its Cultural and Arts Club especially the dance teams as they have paved glorious success since in the previous years. Some of the club achievements through the dance teams are winning champion in the Ethnic Dance Borneo Book Festival in 2018 and Sabah Creative Arts Performance ASNB in the same year, and winning the second place in the Creative Arts Performance National Level at Port Dickson, Seremban. In 2013, the dance team was announced as the Kumpulan Harapan Borneo Arts Festival Labuan F. T. Malaysia.

SK Sembulan has been continuously progressing since it was established in becoming one of the excellent schools in Malaysia. It is hoped that SK Sembulan would continue to produce not only academically-well students, but also holistically well-developed which later contributes to the development of functioning members of the society.
