Oh yeah…

Afternoon everyone ….

Vacation is over, it’s time to get back to reality. I don’t have an international plan on my phone, so once I boarded the plane I had no service until I landed on Sunday morning. Once I turned it back on HOLY MOLY I had so many missed calls, voicemails and text. It was like I left for months. I decided to leave anything not personal for today. So I’ve been fairly busy with phone calls, following up on orders, returning calls from clients and potential clients. Setting up times and days for estimates. It’s going to be a very busy week for me that’s for sure.

Right before I went on vacation I was searching on eBay and a couple other auction sites looking to see if any of my saved searches had anything new listed. I used to have new listing on alerts, but my phone would go off way too much. So maybe a year ago, I turned notifications off on everything.

I came across a 2009 silver Britannia on eBay. I’ve been wanting one of these for years. I was back to collecting/stacking when it was released so I missed out.

Anyhow….

This was a fairly new listing with a very reasonable price for this particular coin. I looked at the pictures carefully and noticed something that I’m assuming everyone else missed….

The pictures aren’t great on the listing which probably deterred most buyers. But if you had the knowledge of coins, and looked carefully you saw the prize it was.

First I’ll share the coin I bought with the foggy and scratched air-tite on.

Now looking at this coin you can see that it is a deep cameo proof silver Britannia. There are some specs of dust on it, but it in amazing shape. Well it wasn’t listed that way. It was listed as a BU 2009 Britannia.

Here is a screenshot of the exact listing.

Here’s what gave it away to me. The reverse, you can see the cameo even in that foggy case.@

Now the BU version does not have a cameo at all. The only coins that get stuck like this are proof coins. Plus the BU version had 100,000 coins minted. Not even close to that on the proof coins.

Here are some details on it:

Artists - Philip Nathan
Mintage - 4,284 Individual Mintage & 2,500 Set Mintage
Coin Highlights:
Contains 1 oz of .958 fine Silver.
Coin comes in protective packaging.
Mintage of 100,000 coins.
Obverse: Displays the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the face value of 2 pounds.
Reverse: Portrays the iconic Britannia driving a chariot and her steeds to war.
Sovereign coin backed by the British government.

I really hit paydirt with this one for sure. The proof coins go for double the regular BU ones go for. Knowledge is king and knowing what to look for makes you money everytime…..
