This Mk-14 type weapon is the first solid-fueled US thermonuclear bomb, generating an explosive power equivalent to 6.9 Mt (megaton) of TNT during Castle Union nuclear tests in the Marshall Islands on April 26, 1954.

Mk-14 began to be developed in September 1952, made up of 5 bombs and began to be used by the US Air Force (USAF) in February 1954. Mk-14 was retired in October 1954 and in September 1956, components of 5 Mk- 14 is recycled to the Mk-17 nuclear bomb.
