RE: Showcase Sunday: Eggs, Easter...
How many chickens should I consider just for myself and an occasional visitor to have fresh eggs? I 'like' eggs in so many ways, so I eat a lot of them (organic, cage-free, free range) and use them when baking cookies, cake and stuff like that :>)
Great laying breeds like Leghorns and Easter Egger average very close to one a day. I would get at least 3 though, because chickens are flock animals and if you get 2 and something happens to one of them it is difficult to introduce a new one. They become very bonded as a flock. If you have room go with 4. Gives you some flexibility
Thank you @whatsup for the information, especially about that 'flock' factor...
