RE: Showcase Sunday: Where are the heroes

Hero as defined in the merriam - webster dictionary has four distinctly different definitions.
a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability
b: an illustrious warrior
c: a person admired for achievements and noble qualities
d: one who shows great courage

As a kid Example A and B would be how I considered a hero.

My take on a hero is now directly in line with definition C. a person admired for achievements and noble qualities

Each and everyone of us has the capabilities needed to perform heroic acts.

To be recognized for a good deed or a heroic act, is not the mind set most people have going into a situation.
In today's world there are so many unsung heroes, people who do what they do, not for recognition, but because it is the right thing to do.
The majority of today's heroes are parents, teachers, volunteers, and so many others who don't need to be recognized as such.

Of course there are those who are viewed as heroes worldwide, and rightfully so, but realizing that our actions may not be celebrated, should not stop us from
exhibiting compassion, caring about humanity and lending a hand when possible!

I agree. i think the term has been degraded and value deflated through misuse - a Hero sportsperson for kicking a ball to score a goal.

The majority of today's heroes are parents, teachers, volunteers, and so many others who don't need to be recognized as such.

The people that do their best each day in the hope that it will improve tomorrow.

Of course there are those who are viewed as heroes worldwide, and rightfully so, but realizing that our actions may not be celebrated, should not stop us from exhibiting compassion, caring about humanity and lending a hand when possible!

It has something to do with the Instagram/Facebook mindset - if there is no photo of it, it wasn't worth doing. People travel and miss the beauty of a city while they search for the perfect photo in front of a landmark for their bragging rights.

Thanks for taking the time to add a thoughtful comment :)

That last line is so true, if you want to see a few pictures of exactly what your're talking about, (search for the perfect photo in front of a landmark for their bragging rights), You need to check out a recent blog by @dandays. https://steemit.com/outofthinair/@dandays/pantheon-of-rome-italy
Besides being a post you don't want to miss, You'll get a couple of laughs from his blog.
@tarazkp.
I don't remember when it was, but awhile ago you posted about a visit you had taken to a cathedral, the pictures of this magnificent building and the info about it's construction were awesome.
With that being said, the post I mention may be something you would enjoy.
Enjoy the holidays with your wife and daughter.

I reckon it might have been my brother posting about historical things, I have no memory for it. But, yes, I have too I guess.

I gave @dandays a follow ( you also) as I am looking to expand a little. Thanks for the tip :)
