You just killed the tone wood debate, now Home Depot can get into the Guitar business. I wonder if furniture grade birch plywood would work, or marine grade plywood, where care was taken to have no air gaps in the laminates. Fun stuff to experiment with. Thumbs up!
@onnovocks actually, Fender used pine for these in the beginning - they sound great, but are softer than other woods. Ibanez still mostly uses basswood for their RG's - another softer, light wood. Plus, there is plenty of pine. Construction grade pine may not be dry enough for a guitar, so be sure to check before you try the Home Depot route. The body I used is made by Tone Bomb on ebay.
