SETI@home 2017 fundraising
SETI@home is a distributed computing platform operating since 1999. With almost 100.000 active users, their purpose is to analyse radio signals in the search for signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence. At the end of 2005, they started using BOINC to distribute work over the internet to participating computers which helped them reaching a broader community.
By using BOINC, SETI@home is also one of the 25 whitelisted Gridcoin projects and has been active on this platform from the start. The Gridcoin network rewards BOINC users by paying them GRC for their efforts, which can help offsetting their electricity bills.
SETI@home have started their annual fundraising. The following information can be found on the home page:
“We've started our annual fundraising drive to help raise the money we need to keep SETI@home running and expand it to new telescopes. Your computers provide us with the power to analyze this data, but your donations are an important part of keeping us operating.
You can donate at https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_donate.php.
They accept various payment options including electronic currencies. Feel free to contribute and help SETI@home to expand their great work.
