Introduction

Hey Steemians! For those of you who don't know much about my background, I have a business with a friend on the west coast where we do marketing for the tourism industry. We take care of SEO, design, advertising, website, etc.

I really like what I do because it's always changing and evolving. Lately, our clients have been wanting us to focus more and more on their SEO. For those of you who don't know what SEO is, here is a short description:

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine's unpaid results—often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results.

Needless to say that ranking #1 on Google means big money for our clients and it's our job to help them get there.

Using Steemit.com To Rank Our Clients?

We have been doing a lot of SEO on our clients, things like installing an SSL certificate, focusing on pagespeed, mobile user experience, etc.

All that being done and more there is one thing that is still the bread and butter of SEO...backlinks.

Backlinks are incoming links to a webpage. When a webpage links to any other page, it's called a backlink. In the past, backlinks were the major metric for the ranking of a webpage. A page with a lot of backlinks tended to rank higher on all major search engines

The value of Steemit Backlinks

Rel="noopener"

Most big blogging / social media platform have a default setup of rel="no follow" whenever we post links to external website.

A no follow link is a link that does not count as a point in the page’s favor, does not boost PageRank, and doesn’t help a page’s placement in the SERPs. No follow links get no love.

Which is not very helpful if you are trying to rank a website . Steemit links are NOT rel="no follow". That is just staggering especially if you consider what I am going to share with you later. Instead, they are rel="noopener" which does not affect SEO.

Alexa Rankings 4,196 and Climbing

If you go on Alexa and look at the ranking of steemit.com / http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/steemit.com
you will find out that Steemit.com is the 4,196 website in the world with the most traffic.

Alexa Traffic Rank: An estimate of this site's popularity.
The rank is calculated using a combination of average daily visitors to this site and pageviews on this site over the past 3 months. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews is ranked #1.

This metric has been speculated to contribute to SEO. A link coming from a top 5000 website in the world that send link juice is just pure gold.

Domain/Page Authority

Domain authority is a measure of the power of a domain name and is one of many search engine ranking factors. Domain authority is based on three factors: Age, Popularity, and Size. SEO gurus Moz can be credited with the metric known as DA or domain authority

If you do a SEO test on steemit.com using the Moz Tool here is what you'll get

The numbers above are AMAZING and they will get better. As Steemit.com becomes more talked about, the more people and companies starts to write articles about it. As people do that, it increases the pagerank and domain authority of steemit.com. The more authority a website has, the more link juice is sends to the website that has a link from it.

Conclusion

Before what steemit.com has to offer in terms of payout...which is really cool, steemit.com offers an amazing way to get other websites ranked. We already have a blogging service for our clients so we will in the future focus our blogging efforts on our clients website instead.

This is what I have been looking for from a long time, to learn more about seo. Have got some basic information from this post and hope to learn more in your future posts, so following you from now.
Hope you post a lot of quality stuff about seo and sem.

Good to know, I'll be writing more about the topic :-)

Good post thanks

This comment has received a 0.07 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @hamzaoui.

@Minesweeper 0.07% is too small a number? I believe it deserves more than that!

Interesting to see how quickly Steemit.com is catching up to other authority websites like Medium and Quora.

Even here, there is a discussion of SЕО. I have concluded that for many, this topic is particularly relevant. I, too, am one of those people who need these services, and SEO services in Calgary ( https://to-the-top.ca/ ) provide them at the highest level. For me, it has been a godsend because until recently, I thought that my business was doomed to fail.

No ways brother.. I literally just posted a comment about you posting again.. And literally while writing the comment you post this :D

I hope you still read it :P It took a while to write LOL!

And wow, I never thought about optimizing outgoing links.. Really smart idea. And the thing is, as this site's currency grows in value, the domain authority should definitely increase as we get a ton more traffic.

It's perfect. It's like investing in little, free penny stocks and over time they just become stronger.

Hope you checked out what I had to say in the previous comment on your last post too :P

Thanks for information cryptoctopus. I haven't used any SEO for steemit but it is something I may consider down the road. Based on Alexa Rankings, it seem like Steemit will do well in the future and will hopefully over take FB and tweeter. It's also a great ideas to constantly evolved your business plan since technology is rapid changing on a daily basis.

@halfscreen can you help me with this Minesweeper website? SEO strategies are not nearly as effective. where did i go wrong?

I didn't think before now about how Steemit's alexa rank going up makes it even better for SEO... as it continues to climb, this could be a real "secret weapon" for savvy marketers like yourself. Good stuff.

Thanks for the timely post mr. @cryptoctopus. Everybody's going haywire since they saw they bloodbath 12 hours ago. Steemit indeed has a promising future coming from the details of your post.

I'm the least technical guy here in Steemit,
but i can only the bright future ahead.

.

Please dont promote your posts in the comment section. Its rude. Especially of it has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ARTICLE.

This is really a great piece of information and a powerful tool to have in our back pocket! I'm definitely sharing this.

Thanks for backing it up with numbers, too.

Thanks @cryptoctopus, this is one of an increasing number of posts I'm seeing about a very important and overlooked advantage of Steemit.

Just out of curiosity, will links in a Steemit comment give link juice as well?

I did the web site and the SEO for my wife's law practice.

I'll resist the temptation to slip the link in here but I'm really interested to know.

I've posted a few times about inserting on-page alt tags & adding anchor text & image links because I understand that Steemit is getting more and more search results and that this will add to the overall importance of the community.

Im investigating the page authority of users roght now and how commenting on their post may increase your own @username page authority. Fascinating stuff.

I was wondering more about the effect of a link coming from Steemit out to a web site.

Her pages already rank very well for localized searches and a few, well placed & very relevant links from a high DA site like Steemit would make her site untouchable.

What I meant is that if you have a page for her business and get active with it, not only her website will benefit from the domain authority of the link but also the page authority from her account. An inactive steemit account will have page authority 0...while mine, for example, has a page authority of 39!
