Okay Seriously, Learning New Stuff is Actually Good For You?!
So, I was thinking the other day... how often do we just get stuck in our routines, right? Same job, same hobbies, same Netflix shows (guilty!). And it kinda made me wonder if I was missing out on something. Then it hit me: learning new skills! I know, sounds kinda like homework, but hear me out.
I've been dabbling in a few new things lately, and honestly, I'm surprised by how good it's been making me feel. Like, besides the obvious "now I can do X" benefit, there's been some unexpected stuff going on.
First off, it's a serious confidence booster. I started learning a little bit of coding (Python, if you're curious). I'm nowhere near building the next Facebook or anything, but just understanding some basic commands and making something actually work is such a cool feeling! It's like, "Hey, I actually can learn new things!" 🤩
And speaking of learning, I think it's making me better at other things too. Like, I'm more patient when I'm trying to figure something out at work, and I don't get as easily frustrated. I guess learning a new skill kind of teaches you how to learn in general? Does that make sense?
Another thing I've noticed is that it's a great way to meet new people. I joined a local pottery class a few weeks ago (yeah, I'm trying to become the next Demi Moore in Ghost lol), and it's been awesome! Everyone is super supportive, and it's just a fun way to spend an evening. Plus, who knows, maybe I'll actually make something that doesn't look like a lopsided ashtray eventually! 🤣
So, yeah, that's my little spiel. I guess what I'm trying to say is that even if you think you're "too busy" or "not smart enough" (totally how I felt at first!), give learning a new skill a shot. You might be surprised by how much you enjoy it, and how much it benefits you in ways you never expected.
What new skills have YOU guys been learning? I'd love to hear about them in the comments! Maybe you'll inspire me to try something else! 😊
