Keep that locus of control internal.
It's much more unhealthy to believe your shitty situation is a result of forces fully beyond your control and that you're powerless to improve your lot regardless of effort, than it is to hate yourself for all the mistakes of your past and for all your inaction in the direction of improvement that you know is possible.
This is true regardless of what types of handicaps you have/what obstacles are unique to your situation, and those ain't the only two options.
You are the power, you got this, now go apply that will to improving yourself and/or the world. You ain't dead yet.
I'm feeling very kind and empowering at the moment. I believe in you, regardless of how fat, lazy, stupid, or ugly you are, and regardless of how much of a piece of shit you were or are right now. Maybe you're too fucking dumb to become an astronaut, but you can always be better tomorrow than today, and the day after than tomorrow. You can do it!
