Notice all of the strikes are performed from traditional martial arts stances. Of course in a real situation the strikes would not be executed in this fashion. The purpose of the executing the kicks from deep traditional stances is to increase leg strength, difficulty, and practice "mind over matter". It is much easier to execute a kick standing straight up, try doing it from a deep stance. If you can do it from a deep stance, your kicking standing straight up will be more powerful.

If you are executing the drills correctly you will feel you a burning sensation in your leg.... you are learning to execute proper technique in an uncomfortable situation. This mental exercise translates into training the warrior to be of sound mind in a real confrontation.
