Is a 25% drop in data breaches a good thing? No, not really. Attackers aren’t less aggressive or shrinking in number. Instead, they are simply shifting to different types of attacks like ransomware, which can be more impactful. ‘Integrity’ attacks tend to trump ‘Confidentiality’ attacks, like those of data breaches, when it comes to benefiting the criminal.
