PROFITING BEES BEYOND THE HONEY

in #science7 years ago (edited)
Bees are small insects animals, but they have great benefits for humans and its environment (ecology). They live in a clean place with no harm to the area they live, eat clean food from the flowers extract, and produce clean honey, that is very beneficial for human health. Bees' residences generally can be divided into 3 locations; in the hills, in the trees and places that have been made by man.

Thus, the bees are generally categorized into two types, namely forest bees and keeping bees. Therefore, honey has been known as jungle honey and honey livestock. However, many people see bees limited as producers of honey which is very beneficial to human health, and the honey seen as one of the excellent business commodities for certain communities. Furthermore, beekeeping has become an economic activities of society.

In fact, very few people pay attention to bees' behavior to develop an ethical model that can be exemplified and practiced in social life. Hence, this article aims to describe some aspects of bees' behavior to be a lesson learned. However, the article will be started by the type of bees based on the regions they live.

The Types of Bees in The World

According to Heather Holm, bees can be distinguished into 10 types based on the regions they live, there are:

(1). Calliopsis Bees, can be found in The Western Hemisphere from southern Canada southward to Argentina and Chile, and can be seen in Summer; (2). Small Sweat Bees, can be seen throughout the world on every continent except Antarctica; (3). Long-Horned Bees, can be seen throughout North America and in parts of Central and South America. Midsummer through fall is the optimum time to observe long-horned bees; (4). Sweat Bees, can be found throughout most of the world except Australia, New Zealand and southern Asia, including Indonesia. Sweat bees are active as adults from spring through fall; (5). Bumblebees, can be found In North and South America, Asia, Europe and northern Africa; they have been introduced into other countries, including New Zealand and Australia. They are active throughout the growing season, from spring through fall; (6) Mining Bees, can seen throughout the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, North America, southern Africa and limited areas in Asia. Spring is the optimum time to look them; (7) Leafcutter Bees, live throughout most of the world, including Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, South America and North America. They are active as adults from the beginning of June to the end of September in the upper Midwest, and farther south in May; (8). Small Carpenter Bees, live throughout most of the world, including Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and North America; they are rare in Australia. They can be seen when visiting flowers throughout the growing season, from early spring through fall; (9). Cellophane Bees. They live throughout most of the world, except Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand. They can be seen in Spring; and (10). Metallic Green Sweat Bees. They are in the Western Hemisphere from central North America south to Central America and parts of South America. In the northern United States, they can be seen in mid to late May. source

Looking Bees Beyond Its Honey: Profiting Some Aspects of Bees’ Behavior

The System of Work and Dietary, and Output

Work System. Bees get out from their hive in the morning till afternoon (during daylight hours), and work on a team work. In one colony consists of three kinds of bees, there are queen, drone, and worker bees. Each of them has respective roles. They never envy others or grab a business that is not their capacity, so they can work together in large groups.

Furthermore, a bee has a high intelligence or very smart in working, for example in the architecture. It is acknowledged by experts that the hexagonal-shaped honeycomb is a proof of its intelligence. This geometry bring them many advantages when compared to other geometry shapes.

With this hexagonal shaped hive, the bees will store the honey with the maximum amount, even this shape needs a little material to build it. In addition, the bees also work hard. A bee can fly thousands of miles every day, and every second a bee is able to flap its wings as much as 250 times.

The facts give us an important lesson, that to achieve the goals of an organization, each member must know his/her status and role, and must obey to the leader. In addition, every individual must be able to work hard and smart .

Dietary habit. Bees eat extract of flowers, and do not eat the flowers, even less the leaves. Thus, it can be ascertained that bees only eat best quality food, and do not consider to eat the amount of food. Furthermore, its existence on one tree will not damage the tree, even it has helped pollinating flowers when bee takes the extract of flowers.

Output. Undeniably the output of bees’ creations that human very interest is honey. It has rich benefits for human health. The type, color, taste and quality of honey is also varied, it depends on the essence or extract of the flowers consumed. Bees do not produce waste for humans, even its honeycomb is very useful for humans.

There are some benefits of honeycomb; Anti-Fungus or bacteria in the body, Natural Antioxidants, Healing Tumors, Curing Cancer, Heart Disease, Improving Immune System, Anti-Inflammatory, Maintaining Digestive System, Simplifying Wound Healing, Antidote Stress, Overcoming Calcification on blood vessels, Helps regeneration of the Heart, Overcoming Dripping Melitus, Neutralize toxins in the body, and as an antibiotic. In addition, the other best known product of honey is propolis which exist in honeycomb. Propolis is also known as very beneficial products for human health. It has many antimicrobial proprieties against bacteria, fungi, and viruses .

The description tells us that a good input will produce a good output, and all its creations and actions are functional for growing others. Thus, human beings have to learn from bees, consider our creation or acting should bring something beneficial to others and the natural surroundings.

All the status, roles and professions attached to us, and every action we do, it will produce a product, both goods and services. So that, human as intelligent beings, in acting should always consider the product or the functional impact of the actions.

Bees’ Activities Effect on Natural and Human Environment

Here are some positive effects of Bees activities. First, bees are pollinating insects. They are crucial for maintaining the function of agricultural systems and providing sufficient crop yields. Hence bees are considered as the most important pollinators. Without them, man would struggle to eat food sustainablely. Second, with bees human reduce economic Costs in growing fruit and vegetable. Without bees we have to pollinate the fruit and vegetable by ourselves. It should cost us extremely expensive, and take long time to do it. Third, Bees are essential insects for sustaining natural ecosystems. Through their pollinating, the production of fruits and seeds being sustainable. Indeed, the plants’ existences are also crucial for their food and shelter.

Based on the description, the important lesson for human is in working or seeking sustenance, whatever status and role he/her plays, have to start it in the morning until the evening (daylight hours), and avoid behavior that damages both to humans around the work area and to the natural surroundings.

Furthermore, take advantage of the people and nature around the work area by noting that each action done is also beneficial to them. Thus, the exploitation on others does not occur, but only mutual actions in balanced relationships take place.

Conclusion

Finally, I confirm that all previous descriptions gives us many lessons from bees. Bees are not only beneficial to human physical health, but also have told us how should to behave in a balanced way to develope a sustainable well-being society. Bees can live prosperous without damaging the environment, even they can prosper their surroundings.

Hiii, just wanted to add, did you know we used honey in world war 1 and world war 2 to make wounds heal faster and so it didn't develop infections?
I still use honey in my line of work, i'm a vet student and sometimes we get dogs that are run over by cars and ppl take the dog to the vet but don't want to pay anything themselves, we use honey in those cases and in a couple of other situations.
Good post my friend :) I learned a lot, didn't know bees flapped their wings 250 times per second, that's amazing
