The Sex Effects of Cannabis
Sex Effects of Cannabis
With the growing daily use of Cannabis in the United States constantly increasing as we keep seeing talks of federal legalization. Surely, talks about the health effects of Cannabis are to rise and we will begin to better understand the physical and psychological effects of the plant. For now, in this paper, we will discuss the question: Are the effects of Cannabis more effective on the opposite sex? Due to the higher body fat rates that women experience it is only logical to assume that Cannabis which is fat soluble will have a greater effect on women. Thanks to Sex, Drugs, and Cognition: Effects of Marijuana we now have a clear view and understanding of the science behind the affected sexes.
There have always been rumors of the higher rate of absorption for women from the past examinations on cannabis. The past examinations of the plant have left out the distinction of the parameters of sex with the obvious higher body fat rates in women. There have even been distinctions among animals in instances where female rats are capable of metabolizing specific cannabinoids that male rats could not. This further leaves us to believe our predictions of cannabis which is fat soluble will have a greater effect on women. It will also better establish the belief for the need of better information regarding this topic.
While modern medical marijuana in Arkansas legally treats a variety of ailments in 2019 from; Cancer to PTSD (www.leafly.com/news/health/qualifying-conditions-for-medical-marijuana-by-state). Existing reports of people from 2007 show people the age of 18-25 years old with a 28% illegal usage of cannabis sativa. Whether the substance is legal or not the effects are desired for a number of reasons. Subjects of Cannabis Sativa report common side effects such as euphoria, depersonalization, altered time sense, lethargy, and drowsiness; which were recorded as being ‘acute subjective’. These supposed acute subjective effects begin within moments of the method of ingestion used in this examination known as smoking and last at least two hours.
The active compound in Cannabis is known as Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. “Once stored in the body, THC remains for several weeks, due to its long biological half-life of four to 12 days, being gradually metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine” (Sex, Drugs, and Cognition: Effects of Marijuana pg. 414, 2007). This study did not examine a difference in the secretion or excretion of THC between the sexes. Notably during the study there was an unknown factor that led many female participants refusal of further cannabis. This is likely due to becoming uncomfortable with the smoke or being ‘too high’. Scientific medical observations show “women report a greater increase in subjective measures of dizziness and a greater drop in mean arterial blood pressure than men” (Sex, Drugs, and Cognition: Effects of Marijuana pg. 414, 2007).
With this evidence and some further experimentations of cognitive assessment we can make some convincing observations of the inherent effects cannabis has on the sexes. The cognitive assessments were randomly administered 30 minutes after the participants smoked Cannabis. Being tested on one of five types of assessment that measured various fields such as time estimation to task switching. These tests used in conjunction with a placebo set delivered concluding results to back up the claims of cannabis effects on sex.
Resounding evidence shows that cannabis drastically increases the heart-rate and yet somehow makes users feel sleepy. During one of the assessments there were significant results that showed a disparity between the effects and sex. The task switching assessment showed a large difference in time change before and after cannabis intake. This figure for women increased a percentage higher than that of men (Sex, Drugs, and Cognition: Effects of Marijuana, 2007).
In conclusion, this study assessed sex differences in the effects of cannabis on cognition in 35 men and 35 women. Cannabis did have an impact on subjects selective and divided attention, cognitive assessment, and time studies. Cognitive testing found no correlations between sex and cannabis; however, the smoking session was often interrupted by some women’s request to stop smoking the marijuana cigarette. Even when receiving a smaller dose of cannabis, women under the influence of marijuana had a non-statistically significant slower reaction time to task switching, suggesting cognitive flexibility may be a key area to focus on in future research examining sex differences in marijuana's effects.
What do you my readers think about this particular subject? Does cannabis have a stronger effect on people with a naturally higher body fat rate? Is this argument even worth reading about? Did the title make you think it was going to be about sexual intercourse on cannabis? Let us all know below!

side note: I wrote this article in January 2019 while taking a psychology class in college. The study of psychology drives many fields of business as the engagements between humans are more closely monitored than ever before. Business uses the study of psychology to benefit the seller and create a consumer culture. These tactics have made the art of selling similar to the art of war.
As an artist I make it my business to understand the art of most things including selling my art.
There are many methods of marketing in todays marketplace but I have found that the strongest form of marketing is called inbound. It revolves around building trust by being the giver of information and being the foundation for building a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. whereas the art of war is through deception; the art of inbound marketing is through teaching and sharing knowledge.
I hope to build a relationship with you all as I learn how to better use this platform. Maybe we can build something great together :)
