They typically consist of three main elements: a perception/vision model that encodes complex sensory inputs into a latent or compressed representation that captures essential features, filtering out irrelevant noise; a transition model that predicts how the state of the world will evolve if the AI agent takes a specific action; and a reward model that predicts the reward the agent will receive upon reaching a new state, which is crucial for decision-making.

According to prominent artificial intelligence experts, world models will be the next revolution in AI for several key reasons. On the one hand, they will gain superior planning and reasoning capabilities by being able to internally simulate scenarios. AI can plan long-term actions and carry out complex reasoning without relying solely on trial and error in the real world. This is crucial for tasks that require strategy, such as advanced robotics, autonomous driving, or business logistics.

And of course, in the entertainment world, generating virtual worlds with physically coherent and realistic scenes, improving tools like Sora or Runway and delighting both young and old.

There's no doubt that this would be an unprecedented advance for artificial intelligence and robotics, but personally, it intimidates me greatly. I'm increasingly edging closer to the time when humans will be completely useless if we don't change our attitude. I hope I never see it.
Resumiendo, los modelos de mundo permiten que la inteligencia artificial pase de ser un sistema reactivo que solo responde a estímulos a uno proactivo y con imaginación, sentando las bases para sistemas verdaderamente autónomos y generales. No cabe duda de que para la inteligencia artificial y la robótica este sería un avance sin precedentes pero, personalmente, esto me intimida bastante. Cada vez veo más cerca el momento en el que los humanos seremos un ser totalmente inútil si no cambiamos nuestra actitud. Espero no llegar a verlo.
