Ok, please don’t run to the window to check outside for the hordes of Cybermen looking to forcefully convert all of humanity, we are not there yet.

Raymond "Ray" Kurzweil, famous American author, computer scientist, inventor and futurist has been saying for quite some time that we are merging with our technology. His view is that our phones will become in the future our next neocortex.

But what about other parts of the human body will they be improved before we get there? Well that is exactly what Dani Clode, a grad student at the Royal College of Art in London, has been working on. She created what she calls the "Third Thumb"—a system that adds a mechanical thumb to the opposite side of a natural thumb on a human hand. She showcased her invention at this year's RCA graduate exhibition.

The thumb was made via 3-D printing, which allows for customization—users can print one to fit the size of their hand. The material is a type of plastic called Ninjaflex.
