INTRODUCTION:

  • In this third part of course on the retaining walls we will talk about the different loads applied on a retaining wall.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LOADS APPLIED ON A RETAINING WALL:

  • The outbreaks of land:


Fig 01: thrusts of land on a retaining wall designed by myself.

  • This is the result of land thrusts applied on the vertical wall of the retaining wall applied to the lower third of the veil.

  • Overloads on the embankment:


Fig 02: overload on the embankments on a retaining wall designed by myself.

  • This is the result of the overloads applied on the slopes of the retaining wall applied to the half of the veil.

  • Land stops:

    Fig 03: Land abutments on a retaining wall designed by myself.

  • This is the result of land abutments applied on the vertical wall of the retaining wall applied to the lower third of the veil and it is a stabilizing force.

  • Reactions of the soil:


Fig 04: ground reaction under a retaining wall designed by myself.

  • It is a stabilizing force due to the reactions of the soil.
