EXPERIMENT: FIRE WITH A PACK OF CHICLES AND TWO BATTERIES

in #science7 years ago

Hello friends, greetings to all, below I will show how we can easily do experiments in our homes only using the tools of knowledge and applying them in practice.

Materials:

1 pack of gum with aluminum foil on one side and plain paper on the other
2 batteries.

Process:

a) The first thing we have to do is open the package of gum and keep the paper.

b) With the scissors, we cut it into two equal pieces. The first piece is left aside, you do not have to do anything with it.

c) In the second we have to make two cuts so that there is a small thin filament in the center that unites the two parts.

d) To get a fire, we have to place as a base the piece of paper that we have removed before with the part of the aluminum facing upwards.

e) Next, we put the two batteries on top, one with the positive side up and the other down.

f) Finally, we also connect them to each of the pieces joined by the filament with the aluminum part facing down and wait a few seconds and we will have our survival fire.

Explanation:

This Physics experiment can be explained by the so-called Joule effect. This explains that if we pass an electric current through a thin conductor, what happens is that it increases the temperature considerably, coming to combust when it is in contact with oxygen.

In this case, the batteries emit an electric current that passes through the aluminum, which is a great conductor of electricity, causing the filament to ignite.
