The Unmissable Sunset at Hangzhou's West Lake, a Truly Awe-Inspiring Spectacle

Recent days in Hangzhou have been marked by rain; this rare clear day beckoned for an outing to capture some photographs. I had initially intended to photograph lotus blossoms, but a wrong turn led me to Jixian Pavilion on the banks of West Lake, where I serendipitously encountered an exquisite sunset 🌅.

I had previously heard that Jixian Pavilion was the optimal location for observing the sunset over West Lake, but had never visited until now, when I inadvertently stumbled upon this enchanting vista 🌇.

Upon arrival, I noted that the lake's edge was replete with cameras 📸, leading me to anticipate a forthcoming display of breathtaking beauty.

With the advent of daylight saving time, the days are longer and the nights shorter ⏰. Sunset typically begins around 18:50 to 19:00 and persists for approximately 5 to 8 minutes, after which the afterglow emerges. Given the fleeting nature of sunset, it is advisable to arrive well in advance.

On this occasion, the sky was rather cloudy, obscuring the sun’s disk. However, this sunset was nonetheless captivating ❤️, which I have divided into three distinct phases:

Sunset occurred at 19:05 🕰.

1️⃣ 18:00 - 18:50 (Images 3-5): During this phase, the lake's surface shimmered, resembling a scattering of stars upon the water. At this stage, any photograph taken will capture the glistening surface of the lake.

2️⃣ 18:50 - 19:05 (Images 1, 2, and 6-9): In this period, leading up to sunset, the sun pierces the clouds, casting golden light upon the world. Jixian Pavilion and the lotus leaves are bathed in this golden hue, while the distant mountains and sky are rendered in a soft blue. This phase embodies a landscape of sublime beauty 🌄.

3️⃣ 19:05 - 19:30 (Images 10-12): This encompasses the sunset and the afterglow. The sunset itself only lasts for 5-8 minutes. Once complete, the afterglow rapidly ensues. At this time, the distant high-rise buildings and the boats on the lake are illuminated 🌇, blending harmoniously with the afterglow to create a truly stunning, vibrant panorama.

Ultimately, on a clear day, I wholeheartedly recommend witnessing the sunset from Jixian Pavilion on the shores of West Lake. It is an experience you will surely cherish for years to come.
