Explore These Streets Before Departing Xi'an
Beyond the Great Wild Goose Pagoda, the Drum Tower, and the Yongning Gate City Wall, these streets of Xi'an are highly recommended for exploration.
📍 Xiangzi Temple Street:
My favorite street in Xi'an for a leisurely stroll, it is characterized by its tranquil and pleasant ambiance. The verdant trees provide ample shade, and the streets are sparsely populated with tourists, mainly occupied by local residents. A ‘Xiangzi Temple’ is situated at the street's entrance, offering a moment of respite amidst the leisurely exploration.
📍 Defu Lane:
Where tradition and modernity converge; this is the essence of this lane! One half caters to the youthful pursuit of café culture, while the other is populated by local residents. If weary from traversing Xiangzi Temple Street, seek refuge here. The sunlight, gentle breeze, and floral fragrance embrace one's coffee cup, while the aroma of freshly baked bread permeates the air.
📍 Shuyuan Gate:
Located near the Stele Forest Museum, I stumbled upon this street after leaving the museum. It is replete with artistic and intellectual flair, adorned with calligraphic art, fans, and ink wash paintings. The majority of those found here are old-timers, adding to its charm; a hidden gem nestled beneath the city wall, often overlooked by many.
Should you grow weary of the tourist attractions of Xi'an, I urge you to explore these streets.
Surely, one of them will beckon you to pause your hurried pace, and allow you to sit, slow down, and truly observe the city.
