THE ESCAPE

Mandy and her son, Joe, were on a public bus travelling to another state for a function. She was a medical doctor and Joe, a high school student. It was a connecting journey from another city. Nobody talked as if they were ordered to be silent.
Halfway through the trip, in the middle of nowhere, a man stood up; he was a serial killer, unknown to everyone. It was dark and dead silent. Out came a shining butcher's knife. From seat to seat, he moved , slitting their throats open. As if hypnotized, nobody stood, ran or fought this mysterious man, except shouting. Somehow, as if suddenly free from his hypnotic powers, Mandy grabbed Joe's hand and jumped out of the bus into the thick bush. He wanted to kill everyone in the bus before going after them. He did follow but the darkness was their savior or so it seemed . The search for them was desperate. In another thirty minutes, he stood by a tree and they backed in to him. He grabbed Joe and tore him from her and disappeared.

It was dark, what could she do? Soon it'll be her turn to die and she knew he'd come after her. They ran into each other later and she screamed as he caught her and raised his knife. She begged but it was too late. Like a flash, it happened
Did she and Joe escape? The police investigated the scene and interviewed the survivors, she described him. He was "invisible" . He moved around like a ghost, even around the hospital where she worked, she saw him several times. She decided to take a leave. She didn't disclose it but he knew it and followed them. The place has tight security. Nobody saw him, but like a ghost, he went in and hacked them. Unsuccessful, he pursued them until his vehicle ran into a ditch and was trapped. It was now his turn to beg for mercy. Recounting how many he had murdered and yet to, Mandy couldn't give him a chance. So many innocent lives have been wasted.
