BE LIKE JESUS

Reading: John 13: 3-15
The story is told of a Christian who was serving in the armed forces and who was at home on leave. He was hurrying to get to the train when it hit a fruit stand on the station platform, knocking over most of the apples that had been piled up.

The young man who operated the post tried to pick up his scattered fruit but it was becoming difficult for him to do so. The contrite soldier left his luggage and began to pick up the apples. She wiped each one with her handkerchief and put it back on the shelf. The boy was so impressed that he asked full of gratitude, "Soldier, are you Jesus?" With a smile, the soldier replied, "No, but I'm trying to be like Him."

Sometimes, as we rush through our own responsibilities, we become too busy to worry about other people. But we must remember that Jesus urges us to show kindness and concern for our fellow travelers. He set the example for us in John 13 as a servant. We have to take the time to be helpful too.

Will there be someone who asks us, "Are you Jesus?" And we could answer with total honesty, "No, I am Jesus, but I am trying to be like Him." Kindness to the image of Christ can open the door for a testimony that touches the heart.

Reflection: Nothing is more attractive than being like Jesus.

We have no greater example in this life than Jesus. He is our model to imitate and his examples should live with us as a way of life.
