Ife and modakeke conflicts
This conflicts is intra or sub ethnic, this conflicts is regards as the one of the oldest intra- ethnic conflicts in Nigeria, with heavy losses of lives and property.
By 1980 the ooni of ife ( oba soji Aderemi permitted Oyo refugees from Fulani jihadists to settle in Ife territory which was called Modakeke, and the ruler, Ogunsua (. This gave the refugees a separate identity which they guarded. On the basis of this identity, the Modakeke people went into war directly and as ally, for example, in the Ekiti- parapo war of 1877-1893 to resist political control from Ife. Oni Adesoju Aderemi (1940-1980). Like his predecessor, Ooni Ajagun, tries to bring about friendship between the Modakeke and Ife people party through the participation of the ruler of the former in the colonial native administrationAlthough the Modakeke had paid token fee (ishakole) usually in the form of farm products to their Ife landlords, the latter demanded more rewards when the price of cocoa increased, thus generating high income for the Modakeke farmers. This demand was resented by the Modakeke people, who lost in their appeals from native Authority court decision to the supreme Court and to the west Africa court of Appeal, Riot followed.
