Ife and modakeke conflicts

This conflicts is intra or sub ethnic, this conflicts is regards as the one of the oldest intra- ethnic conflicts in Nigeria, with heavy losses of lives and property.
By 1980 the ooni of ife ( oba soji Aderemi permitted Oyo refugees from Fulani jihadists to settle in Ife territory which was called Modakeke, and the ruler, Ogunsua (. This gave the refugees a separate identity which they guarded. On the basis of this identity, the Modakeke people went into war directly and as ally, for example, in the Ekiti- parapo war of 1877-1893 to resist political control from Ife.
