Just beatin it - upwind sailing on a 1986 Nauticat 33

SV Tout Va Bien sailing home to Victoria from Discovery Island May 20 2018 - Juan De Fuca Straight. The wind was steady and the beer was tasty!

For those of you not in the sailing know... beating isn't the most efficient point of sail - but it does get the job done. When the wind direction is coming from the bow of the boat it's impossible to sail straight into it - this is known as being in irons. By tacking back and forth when sailing into the wind you can make slow progress but it usually involves a lot of tacking (turning into the wind) back in forth in a zig zag pattern - I always find myself humming Michael Jackson's Just Beat It
