Oops, I Started Running Again ...

in #runningproject7 years ago (edited)

Heavy cloud and breezy was the forecast for today, it was about 10 degrees centigrade when I went out at half past seven and humid with it. A week or two ago I completed the #runningproject 5k Training Programme (and I'll write about that another time), and I've continued to do three sessions a week of between 3.5k-5k since then.

The Botanic Garden, my favourite place to run, last Friday, irises coming into bloom.

My garden has kept me really busy, so little time to blog, but finally, yesterday evening, every last vegetable had a home. I've been waking early, I'm doing an experiment to be up with the sunrise and this morning, all jobs done, I headed for my favourite place to run, the Botanic Garden. Ten minutes from home, it's a beautiful traffic-free environment with level, wheelchair-accessible paths. I have the secret sign now, so I can get in any time I want to 😜.

I turn left at the entrance, head north and then east after I pass the rectangular carp pond, and then keep to the outer paths as much as I can, back to the exit. My favourite part is a long drop from the pond in the middle down through the cedar grove.

I injured myself early in the 5k training programme, so for much of it, I was concentrating on building endurance and strength. I'd noticed over the past few weeks that my right hip had been feeling much better and I had decided that I was going try running again 😱. I was just out for a short distance today, a route I knew well, and once I was in the Garden, I started off gently, sixty paces at a time, then walking for a minute and sixty paces again. I think I managed about ten repetitions in the distance and it felt wonderful!

Back home to half an hour of strengthening and stretching and a very large glass of water. Very happy with that.

That's good to hear your hip is better and that you are back out there. :) Looks like an amazing place to run - I also like to run places where I can keep my mind distracted by looking at beautiful scenery things :)

It is lovely, especially at this time of year, and the ideal place for a novice runner. How's your running going?

Lovely garden! Hope you will be able to continue running without injuries.

Very good to hear your injury's getting better @shanibeer 🏃
And did you see any other runners when you went running ?

Yes, there were several runners out on the road, all women. I never see anyone else in the Garden.

Looks like a beautiful place to run! I'll bet the Iris are amazing when all blooming! Glad you are continuning to run, and being careful with your injury.

Yes, the irises were out today and they looked gorgeous. I couldn't stop to take a photograph because that would have broken the rhythm, but I hope to catch them in the next day or two.

Good to hear your injury has settled. I have taken various amounts of time off for injuries over the years just takes a bit of time to build up again.

Thank you, it was good to be out there.

Awesome about your gardening progress, and of course awesome to hear you are getting back out to running. Hope the hip stays healthy! :)

Thank you, it was great to be out there! I was thinking about you today when I was making lunch with a "rainbow of colours".

Nice! I'm happy to be associated with rainbows. ;)

Nice to read you are back to running again.
Try to run over soft pavement better than concrete or asphalt now, that grass of the pic would be perfect, give some time to your hip to get fully recovered.

Yes, thank you, good advice. I'll take my time, but ... you know how good it feels.

yes, I know...I'm an addict :-)
