The oldest cave paintings in the world were discovered in the Coliboaia Cave, Romania

These paintings date back 35,000 years ago, experts say in cave art, which reported the discoveries of the Coliboaia cave on the Sighistea Valley and the results of Carbon 14 samples taken from the Gallery of Cave Paintings.

A gallery of black paintings was discovered in the Coliboaia cave: a bison, a horse, a cat, and two rhino (rhinoceros) heads.

Several bearings and bones have also been discovered.

The discovery made by some Romanian speleologists in June 2010 was dated by two caving art experts, Jean Clottes and Bernard Gély, from France, saying that these paintings date back almost 35,000 years ago.

"The Coliboaia cave is not accessible to the general public. It will most likely remain inaccessible, as it has to go underwater to get the paintings. The drawings are all the more valuable because there are similarities between the cave art of prehistoric people in Bihor with the works of those who have drawn in caves in France, about the same historical period"

said Călin Ghemis, archaeologist at the Crisul Land Museum.
