On the 28th day of December 2017,I Eko Clementina went visiting in a village in Enugu state in Nigeria. The village is called Agbogwugu. We arrived at the village around 4:00 .We ate, had our bath and went to bed. In the morning I saw young ladies carrying firewoods on their heads,some made use of wheelbarrows others made use of vehicles.My inquisitive nature prompted me to ask what the occasion was. I was told they were taking the firewoods to a young maiden's house who was going to celebrate her traditional wedding the following week and that wasn't all on the day of the occasional they would have to pound the grounded cassava called fufu or loiloi in Nigerian language, sweep the place, put the place in order, wash plates and serve food to all the guest, in return after the occasion the following day married maiden would invite them all to her cook a very delicious meal and serve them different kinds of drinks that they like and when they want to go home she would give them a living cock to go home with to prepare whatever they like with it.
In the night, I went to one of the maiden's house that carried firewood over to the celebrant's house Lo and behold I saw some maidens' in their parlour and met them sharing sweets and chewing gums then I was told the celebrant whom they carried firewood for gave it to them in appreciation for the firewood .And after her marriage they would be invited specially to come and know where she stays with her husband.She would have prepare for them a sumptuous meal to welcome them on arrival to her place.
