An Echo of Things to Come (The Licanius Trilogy #2) by James Islington - REVIEW
While I have had too many personal obligations lately, at the same time I have tried to stay in this unreal world shaped by James Islington. Today I will write about second book in his trilogy - An Echo of Things to Come.
In the first part, we were slightly, gradually familiar with the characters, and we were introduced to the world and its happenings through several characters. But I got the impression that we have one protagonist. In this part of the trilogy, everything became even more intricate and confusing. However, this is not a bad sign. This gave the story and its idea a perfect shape.
The characters of our heroes have become more developed, much more mystical. The world and its events are portrayed by several characters who, each with their own concerns, are directed to defeat the force they consider evil. Interestingly, there are twists and turns here in the story that you can't meet elsewhere. There is NO one in the ultimate evil that everyone fights. Things are set up so that each side of this fight has great arguments as to why their goal is justified.
What caught my attention the most, and what I'm sure will make me come back to this world again is the amount of work that is reflected in many aspects, which is dedicated to this part. The writer has conveyed his vision through thousands and thousands of small details that put you more and more into the story. Myths, legends, immortality, ancient powers, and even more ancient beings intertwine their plans by sacrificing hundreds of thousands and even millions of lives for what they consider to be a justifiable goal. Artifacts created to destroy, preserve or create something connect all elements of the story.
The magic that is in this world - it does not belong to it. But by some roads, known to only a few, have reached here. And it will continue to exist as long as the world exists.
Traveling through time, whether in the past or in the future, will always confuse you, but once you catch the rhythm and pattern that the writer envisioned, this story will become one of your favorites.
Strong character traits, conspiracy constants and secrets that blend in one after the other. Friendship, destiny and duty. A magical world colored by a wide variety of colors. And all this thanks to the incredible imagination of the writer will not allow you to break away from this trilogy for a moment. And so, I immediately start reading the next and last part. I hope to convey my impressions to you soon.
