Never Split the Party - Rogue-like multiplayer game
New review: Never Split the Party
Hi Steemit users! Today I bring you a free-to-play game with a RPG shooter with a rogue-like tematic. It resembles to The Binding of Isaac in the essence of its mechanics. However, this game can be played in a cooperative multiplayer up to 4 players.
Brief explanation
The original game mode is composed by 5 floors procedurally generated. Those floors have differents rooms:
- Normal room: It may spawn or not mobs. Also, there could be some coins, hearts, gems or items inside jars or initially in the map.
- Treasure room: It has 4 chests in the middle. They drop one item per player.
- Shop room: As expected, there are different items for sale in this area. You can buy objects, hearts, shields and potions by walking on them. The number above them is the money cost.
Note: When you buy hearts you recover that a amount, you DON´T increase you max hearts.
- Boss room: In this chamber you challenge the floor boss. It isn´t always the same one (except the last floor boss). I´m not posting a picture to avoid spoilers.
Moreover, the game has a class system. You can play for free both the fighter and the cleric. The other ones needs premium.
While the fighter has more damage and range, the cleric has an extra heart and a reusable ability that heals up to 1 heart.
The premium version has also some different games mode (I have the free version so :v) as PvP.
Being more specific about the collectables that you can find, we could list them in these categories:
- Potions: They can increase any of your stats(gold amount, hearts, bombs, keys, damage...) or decrease them.
- Familiars: They are pets that have different effects and behaviours.
- Objects: They have a wide variety of effects both passives and actives
The potions are unidentified unless you have an especific object or ability. You have to take the risk to see its effect.
Personal opinion
I like this game to play casually with some friends and have fun. The graphics are what you could expect from a pixel-art game and the background music is quite average, and the controls are quite simple and comfortable.
However, there two things I would like to highlight 3 aspects:
- The translations to other languages from english suck! For those who aren´t able to read english could be a downgrade in the development of the gameplay.
- The game has some known bugs that are very annoying. However this is understandable due to the fact that game is still in early access.
- The premium version is so expensive (about 12€) for its content (some additional classes and 2-3 game modes) in my opinion, even when the game is fully developed yet.
This is it. I hope you liked this review. I know it´s not well polished, but the game itself is quite simple to extend the post, but not a reason to discard it though. It’s worth a shot. My recommendation is to play it with friends.
See you in the next post!
