A Simple Post On Resteeming

in #resteem7 years ago

Recently, I was asked to help some minnows by tipping them.  The engagement level was quite high.  I got one strong message from some of the minnows I really want to support.

"My content stands on it's own, could you please just Resteem my work.",  said the minnow.

I have heard the arguments and I get it.  I follow you, because I like your work, and I don't want to see what you are resteeming.

I am attempting to respect the balance, but I think because the UI is young, it can be more difficult than it should be for new users to get traction.  My conclusion, I like to resteem.  If you need to unfollow me for that, I completely understand.

Why do I think it is beneficial to help the new-users?  My opinion is more eyes, more types of content (not just my type) is good for the value of Steem. There are many opposing views and many of them valid.  This is the stance I have decided to take.

I love discussion and debate, so whether you agree or disagree I would like to hear your opinion.

I think it benefits everyone. Some of the whales just don't post the same good content they used to, because it's just too easy for them to make money. There's no incentive for them to go above and beyond. The new blood here has the urge to prove themselves. They tend to post good content that gets overlooked. Upvoted.

Thanks @clayford08, I understand we have to be careful not overdo it, but I completely agree.

I completely agree

I agree, being my blog is dedicated to my work only I don't really resteem posts but, I would probably start if there was a separate page such as "comments" or "replies" specifically for user's resteems. That way author's content isn't lost in the sauce of their resteemed posts. I think this would be a great change if this were to be implemented. What do you think?

I agree. The UI could make it easier. I don't get the impression they are ready to, or if they ever will develop out the UI of SteemIt. My impression based on communication is it isn't a priority to SteemIt, Inc.

You're right, I don't see them making any major UI changes anytime soon. Maybe close to mass adoption? Hopefully? There's a small list of things I feel that absolutely need to be added though, and this would be one of them. I think my dilemma is a perfect example of why some things need to be tweaked or added. I often I see a really cool post and want to resteem it but I'm totally OCD about my blog and everything on it has to be my own work. I'm sure other users are in a similar boat and would like to see some sort of separation between their own content and the content they resteem.

I do not represent them in anyway, but I suspect they are sending a message to the community to build a UI with the feature you want, vs making suggestions .. I am basing this on my personal reaction to their marketing efforts and communication with the community.

I agree with this. I was very confused looking at different authors' profile pages, thinking that all the posts under their "Blog" section was written by that person. Separating them under two different tabs or at least adding profile pictures of the original author to the post card would definitely help tell them apart.

Man, they (Steemit.inc) need to come up with a new UI. So many users, followers, resteems... i can never keep track of who im following or who i care to follow anymore...
This is the first post ive seen from you in my followers section in like a week.
Idk, i agree resteeming is good, and its fine to do as long as this rule is followed:
"Use in Moderation"

-some people i had to unfollow because of the hot finger resteeming action. I couldnt take it anymore lol

100% agreement. I lost your posts for a while too, and suddenly started to see them again. :)

The UI is young, the UI is young. lol

Awe yes... this is something us in cryptoland fail to realize.
1 year is young
For crypto traders its like an eternity!

Got to keep in mind how ugly FB was for like the first 5 years ;)

What happens if you 'mute' somebody? Does this mean that that persons blog doesn't show up anymore? If so could that be an idea?

Honestly, i find muting someone to be 'wrong' in my opinion. Just doesnt feel right.

Who knows, they could post something you like in the future and you may want to follow them again. Muting destroys that, kind of saying you want that persons blog to die lol.

Thanks I obviously didn't understand what that feature does then!

As a newbie still, resteeming is very helpful to our growth. In my opinion that would be a silly reason to unfollow someone. They can just scroll right on past the resteems. Thanks

I think us beginners don't get enough traction to even start getting views. So many posts in a day, the good ones fade away rather quickly :(
Followed you :)

Great article and I couldnt agree with you more. It is always nice to help and I see the steemit comunity as a friendly and helpful one . No hate here like on fbibook or twitt. Peace and clarity for all! hope all of you succeed in whatever you are trying to accomplish! Steem on brother!

I am one of the few that thinks FB serves a purpose. In addition, my behavior is different here, as I am invested. ;)

I want to see you be successful as well.
Thanks for stopping by.

FB purpose? yes as a marketing platform and to build database on a large amount of people, also to spy and watch your every click and message. Did I miss anything? What purpose do you see in FB? Also thanks for the upvote, means alot for a new guy!

Well I have moved a lot in my life and my friends and family are spread out. FB is a really nice way for me to keep up with my "Real Life" people.

I love it for that. I have friends from nearly every job that I have had, most of the schools I have attended. I am not good at snail mail, so I love it for the social aspect.

Here, I have met new interesting people that know different people, different cultures, etc. Also, as I said, I am invested. So, two different things. (just my view)

I for one greatly enjoy the rewards from resteems.
It may not always garnish more revenue, but it draws the attention that I enjoy, especially with my Pixel Art Weekly contest.

I thinks resteem is very important and it will be better used if it be encourage and reward like upvote.

It is very true, the more the new guy gets traction the more he will bring in others= stronger steem= better for everyone.

Upvoted + followed you mate!

I have read many books that state, "No Man (woman) Succeeds Alone". (of course they state it in different terms) Successful people surround themselves with teams of people that have different skill sets, and different abilities. Together they help each other rise!

i've always been a 'a rising tide floats all boats' kinda guy-we all make it together or none of us make it (contrary to the common popular myth of the self-made man or woman). we all need a hand up sometimes - notice i didn't say a 'hand out'. we all have something to contribute and need to be respected for the value we add not envied for the material wealth or power we horde

I love that you pointed out the difference between a hand up and a hand out.
