RE: Introducing: Zoe the Ball Python... eating her dinner! (If you don't want to see a snake eating a rat, keep scrolling!)

I'm glad you were able to save Zoe. She looks so much better now! Your pictures do make me sad for the rat, but it is so amazing that snakes can do that!

Thanks for the kind comment! I am glad too! I love stories of pets being rescued from neglect or death, and I had the opportunity to save a pet myself, and for that I am thankful.

I also feel bad for the rats. There is no getting around it though, this is the perfect diet for this kind of snake, anything else and you can get health issues. I do not feed live rats though, so they aren't getting scared and killed by the snake. They are put to sleep with CO2 inhalation, and then frozen. I just have to thaw to a warm temperature, and feed. Some snakes won't take food this way, but lucky for me, Zoe and the other pet snakes in our household have no problem eating a thawed dinner. :)

That's nice. I saw a snake eat a live mouse one time. It was fascinating, but I felt terrible for the mouse. That would be hard to watch every week.

Yes, it sure would...
