FAJR REMINDER: PROHIBITED FOR MUSLIM MEN
By: Umm Affan
Shawwal 18, 1439 (2-July-2018)

O Muslims! Bear in mind that one of the injunctions for our clothing, is that, it must be Halal (permissible). Nowadays, our markets are filled with many gold made (or coated) items designed for men such as eyeglasses, rings, watches and chains. However, the Islam dress code forbids Muslim men from wearing gold. The Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) said (as recorded in Sunan Ibn Majah): “These two (i.e. gold and silk) are forbidden for the males of my Ummah and permissible for female.” Besides that, there is another crucial issue which many treat trivial. And that’s Isbal! This means a Muslim man having his clothes lengthened below his ankles. In fact, some Muslim men drag theirs on the floor, all in the name of fashion and civilization. The Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) warned (as recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari): “That which of the lower garment hangs (in pride) below the ankle, will be in the Fire.”

More so, men imitating women (in dressing) is strictly forbidden in Islam and considered a major sin (when done). This is common in the entertainment industry. The Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) said (as recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari): “Allah has cursed the men who make themselves look like women (i.e. effeminate men) and the women who make themselves look like men (i.e. masculine women).” He (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) accentuated (as recorded in Sunan Abi Dawood): “Allah has cursed men who wear the clothes of women and women who wear the clothes of men.” Another serious matter is the obnoxious pictures which appear on some clothes such as pictures of musicians, crosses, bottles of wine, animate beings, logs of immoral clubs and societies, and bad words which are all forbidden and do not suit noble people. Brothers! Shun the use of gold made (or coated) jewelries, Isbal and all that are forbidden. I beseech Allah to grant us guidance. (Aameen)
