in #redfishpillar7 years ago (edited)

Hello Newbies! It's ask me anything about steemit Wednesday (AMAWED) again today.

I believe that some have already started ''cooking'' their questions in preparation for today. Hahaa...so, don't miss out! In case you couldn't be part of the second edition of AMAWED, do well to check it out here. It was another learning experience, not just for newbies alone, but for me, @maryfavour,  as well. I guess my experience wouldn't be too different from that of Steemians of repute, who facilitated AMAWED with me; @oluwoleolaide, @eurogee, @sweetestglo-eu, @honourmaus & @tj4real.

Four (4) Things You Need To Come With

For now, you only need to bring with you four (4) things

  • A comfortable chair
  • A bottle of coke, beer, cup of coffee/tea, water, or any drink of your choice (my branded steemit mug is ready to be filled with green tea)
  • Pop corn, according to @jaynene in the last 2 editions. Lol! Any snack would do
  • Most importantly, your questions, probably written down

It's your friend and host  @maryfavour

All content is mine and original, paraphrased from the last week's AMAWED content, I created.  The beautifully designed flyer was made for @redfishpillar project by @royalfinest. A brother and friend, @outhori5ed made the lovely divider and  the photo shot is mine taken with my samsung galaxy s4 mobile phone.

i want you to enlighten me on something. want to work on a project. i want to do it like the upvotable by @jerrybanfield. i have benefited 3 times from that. so i want to give back to the community. i would give minnows the opportunity to earn. they would submit their post and it would be scrutinized by capable set of people which i already have. is there any tip you can give as how to go about it

Auntie permission to respond to @ewuoso

Firstly @ewuoso, you are still very much a redminnow- i am a minnow myself.

So if you plan to do contest, can you fund it in the begining cos your wallet depends on that.

STACH , @steem-lagos and @Steemitvirus organises weekly giveaway and you are very much aware of the people in charge of this contests-you know they could fund those weekly contest assuming things go south!

Now ask yourself this- the week you don't earn much, how do you pay your contest winners?

This and many more are the things you should consider and as you know we copy ideas in this part of the world which doesn't make us credible at-times.

But if you have sponsors; you can Go ahead and you will have supports and space as @steem-lagos will soon stop it's weekly contest because every newbie is now doing same thing!

Welcome to AMAWED, @oluwoleolaide! A very wonderful response to @ewuoso's question. Most minnows/redfish who want to carry out projects, don't even think of funding for their projects.

So if you plan to do contest, can you fund it in the begining cos your wallet depends on that.

I absolutely, agree with you. Before I conceived @redfishpillar project, it was clear to me that funding would be required. I called for assistance with the introduce yourself post of the project. No one responded. Anyway, I expected that to happen and was prepared to self-fund the project, which is what I've been doing. The support, I've got so far for the programs that run on @redfishpillar is by way of upvotes, which I am very grateful for, since no one actually owes me their votes. Besides, you, @oluwoleolaide, have supported me financially with hard steem , to be able to sponsor 2 people to steemit in Nigeria (SIN) conference). Honestly, I would prefer newbies first to be team members of existing projects. When they are able to raise funds or find sponsors for their projects, they can start theirs. The population of registered steemians is getting larger and larger by the day, so after sometime they can branch out. That is my take, for now, on this issue of starting a project . Thank you so much, Captain @olowoleolaide.

Am honored ma'am....your zeal and energy challenges me day and night as i am younger and have less responsibilities than you.

When i first saw this reponse, I thought it was a bot. lol. Hahah. Your into amused me. It is good to have unique focus first and have done some underground research and support like you have said. Also, it is better to even have friend here first. After that any project may work fine. I wouldnt say less. You said it all @oluwoleolaide. Great job my brother from the other side.

thank you sir for the response. i plan to meet everybody i know for support not excluding you. but i am optimistic. i gues i make up $6 a week and that is enough for now

You have my support brother!

God bless you bro.

Smiles , i love your spirit ma
Will be looking forward to have some conversation with you on steemit.chat or discord soon , i hope i am welcome ma
Thank you

I appreciate the compliment, @bollutech. Be assured of whatever assistance I can give to help you grow, as long as my limited time permits me to. Cheers.

I will love to have some of your time to have some conversation with you ,i hope you wont mind ma'am.

Wanted to learn from you, please be a mentor
Where can i have you chat up discord or steemit.chat ma'am.

Than you maam

Hahahaha @maryfavour, me sef will quickly go and advertise this.

I have got my question waiting; Flagging someone's comment on a post, does it affect the flagged person's account in terms of reputation?

Hi, @bat-junior. Welcome to AMAWED! Firstly, let me state that both comment and your write-up in submit a story section are considered as posts. So, yes, when someone's comment is flagged, it does affect his reputable, depending on the level of negatively weighed vote and the SP of the one who flagged the post. For instance, I could flagged @cornholio's spam comment on my blog post once with 100% negatively weighted vote and his reputation reduced by 2. Just be careful and make sure not to spam people's pages. Cheers.

@maryfavour for @redfishpillar project.

Thank you very much @maryfavour for this wonderful enlightenment. I am glad to have you as a mentor.

@maryfavor. I feel great to take part in another edition of AMAWED.

Welcome to #AMAWED, @eurogee! It's good to have you here. Just pull out a seat, with your cup of tea/coffee and enjoy. Cheers.

Its my pleasure to be a participant of this AMWED as this is my second time, although i missed the 2nd edition due to work time and now i found myself to post this on this 3rd edition ,and here i will be stating my questions now and come back for the answers.
My questions goes thus;

  • 1 Does having lots of followers means such user is going to have lots of upvotes on his/her work?

  • 2 Facing challenges as a minnows ; how can minnows overcome challenges facing them .

  • 3 Does one reputation gets ones work resteemed? And does it decide the numbers of upvotes one receives?

  • 4 We all know getting mentor on this community is kinda hard this times as everyone has lots of things on desk ; how can someone get mentorship and the helps they could render to whom they are mentoring.

  • 5 How do minnows recognise WHALES?

Thanks

@bollutech, I will like to add some few lines of answers to buttress more on @maryfavour responses

  1. To ensure you get quality as against quantity Followers, don't ask people to follow you. Let your contributions to the growth of the community speak for you. One thing I have learnt from @maryfavour is that she can never leave a few lines of comment as a response to a blog post. Her comment is always objectively engaging with compelling discourse. She would rather not leave a comment at all. This strategy works wonders. Other persons you should learn their commenting methods are @smyle, @sweetestglo-eu, @honourmaus and of course yours truly.

  2. By devising a means to get known is one strategy that also works. It could be through solving fellow minnows problems. As much as possible, while you interact with your fellow minnow, also look out for dolphins. Read and comment on their works. I prefer to go searching for dolphins to relate with Than whales because they tend to give more attention to one. If 20 dolphins follows u within one month of active interaction and each vote/dolphin give $1. It means 20 of them give you 20$ per post and also give u more attention.

Whales visits dolphins more than they do to minnows. So as you keep working with minnows and leaving very objective comments on their works, you will indirectly be advertising yourself to whales who may begin to take notice of you, leading to paying you surprised visits.

  1. Reputation is not a basis for articles to get resteemed. Resteemin your work depend on the judgement of your individual readers, and your relationship with them. When they see your article as something that would be of benefits to their followers, they resteem it.

Whether it determines the number of upvoted? My answer to is 'yes, with a reason'. Some Steemians prefer clicking the works of people with high reputation score. The more clicks an article gets, the more chances to get upvotes

  1. When people begin to see you as a potential success bomb, they will be drawn to you. So get active, Steemians of repute are always in search of those with success potentials.

  2. There's a comprehensive list of notable whales. Unfortunately I no longer have the links. But whales are people with fat wallet size, at least $50, 000 I guess.

I hope this helps.

@eurogee

How many weeks is a new bie allow to post his /her write up

Welcome to AMAWED, @itrip4writting! Actually, you've already started writing posts by commenting on this blog. Posts are of 2 kinds in steemit: The write up, as you put it, and then comments. There is no fixed time as to when to begin. You can start now. A very warm welcome to steemit. Keep steeming!

I am clapping for you now @eurogee for your very well composed and sound response.

But whales are people with fat wallet size, at least $50, 000 I guess.

Please, read my response to @bollutech's questions for accurate figure. Eurogee, you and @oluwoleolaide deserve more than my $1 vote today. I promise to send you something for this great assistance. So excited that you guys are around to help me out. Well done!!!

@maryfavor, 🙊lol don't mention ma'am. I am part and parcel of your project. I mean our project 😀. Thanks ma'am. More blessings

This is like bombshell advice which i will take heed to ..... May God bless you as i learnt from you this present hour sir.

Whaaooo, This is indeed an epic response. I really love the way you responded and composed your answers. This shows the exemplary leadership in you. @maryfavour dey try for comment sha. She go answer you by every fullstop you make. One thing in which I share in my post on steemit, you have to focus on joining a community and making friends. If you do, and you successfully get that, you will easily get upvotes from them. Cheers @eurogee. I double respect you with this.

Hello, @bollutech. Welcome to AMAWED! My response to your questions would be

  1. Having lots of steemit followers is good. However, it doesn't translate to the number of upvotes you will get. More so, the number of upvotes that you have doesn't translate to how much you'll get as payout after 7 days. In steemit, you have some followers that are dead followers, there are some that are ghost followers. These have only followed you, but they are not active followers, so it all depends on the kind of followers that you have attracted over time. This app created by @pilcrow and @sjennon would help you get a good insight into your question regarding followers.

  2. Well, minnows can overcome the challenges facing them, if they first study the challenges and understand them. Then they can now begin to search for solutions. I believe that there is no challenge or problem that does not have a solution. More often than not, the solution lies in the minnows looking for people, who can help them overcome their challenges. They could also look for other resources, (like posts of veteran Steemians, youtube videos, that can be of help. So, that is basically how I can answer your question . Moreover,it would be wise for minnows to look for someone who is knowledgeable about their problems or those who can help you look for somebody who can refer you to another person who could be of help. Alternatively, the minnow can write a post about the problem and wait for honest responses from other steemians. Personally, I did this in my early days in steemit. I still ask questions ask questions. Whenever, a minnow wants to use a post to ask direct questions, he should use the question tag , or steemit help tag, as first tag so that those who can help him will come to his aid.

  3. In the 6 months that I've been on steemit, I've not seen where one's reputation gets one's work resteemed. Creating and posting good content is what will make your work to be considered for resteem. Where reputation plays a role is this. The higher your reputation, the more visible your post would be. The lower your reputation, the less likely your post would be seen.

  4. Please, read @oluwoleolaide's very good response on mentorship.

  5. Minnows can recognize whales, judging from the vests /steem power that they have. So, basically a whale is a Steemian who has 1 billion vests /about 500 million steem power (SP). See witness @arcange's update 6 of steemitboard on the different classes of Steemians. As at today, there are only 41 steemit whales. The graph shown below was sourced from @arcange's daily steemit statistics report

@maryfavour for @redfishpillar project.

Auntie lemme buttress on this ma:

@bollutech , getting mentors is not hard- listening to advise is that hardest!

I use to tell newbies what they should do in their first 2-3 weeks on Steemit; sadly few listen to you cos they look at your wallet and voting weight before they follow your instructions.

I have written blogs for a dozen of people and some in all their smartness go drop it in their blogs and editting the hell out of the original stories and end up not earning, indirectly saying they know more than me the content writer.

I advise people on topics to write on, and you will be shocked at what some people say about the topic i give them. So it is hard to be a mentor to someone who thinks his/her mentor is not smart enough.

From the few instances, you could see why many don't like to talk to minmows anymore!

Oh! Its more of likes for me to have a mentor ,i am eager to work ,inspired and inspire people too but my problem is who to guild me. Actually @honourmaus is really helping with his possible best ,yet i still find it more to meet someone that will guild me more and i promise to be ever loyal and listen sir.

Thanks

Okay sir, we have a session on Discord Steemchat.

Will message you with @oluwoleolaide or @steem-lagos in a short while

Wow ..... Thank you sir
I will login to check sir

So it is hard to be a mentor to someone who thinks his/her mentor is not smart enough.

This is so true. In fact, I don't need to respond anymore to @bollutech's question on mentorship. You've done justice to it. Thumbs up. Bravo, brother!!!

Hugging you ma'am....i can't wait to see you in Lagos

I can't wait to see you guys too. Hugs...

Bro, come and give me topics to write on o :(. Thank you for the engagement here.

@maryfavour, Jees! 500 mil——gini? Education is a continuous process. Thank God I am present to learn

@eurogee, Jeeez! Yes, $500 mil...Hahaaa...osuoya ni igbo ....gini? @Pharesim is a classic example of a steemit whale. He has 500,323.990 SP and 1,031million vests, which is a little over 1 billion. Check his profile on steemitboard.com and steemd.com. Such big fish hardly post. They are curators. When they visit you, you'll go and do thanksgiving in Church. Lol!

Education is a continuous process. Thank God I am present to learn

The day I stop learning is the day I start dying. I get to learn a lot even from newbies, not only from whales, orcas and dolphins. Trust me.

Actually , am after getting along with people who can help me , most especially those that have been in this community for over months to give me more advice and be my mentors.
I always ask questions to get ride of what am facing as obstacles and at times i see myself as a disturbance to @honourmaus though he never complain ,yet he do helps with his possible best which always get me in awe of the type he's .
I am glad you went this long time to provide an answers from your experience as a minnow which i will definitely work on soon and will be so much happy to tag @redfishpillar too.
Thank you so much am very happy to hear from you ma'am

I missed it but i think i will like it, wouldnt want to miss the one for next week. Well done ma

This is my very first time of participating on this AMAWED, I hope it will illuminate my dark spots concerning Steemit.
My questions are listed below

  1. Don't you think their is some level of discrimination on Steemit, I mean why is it that many posts will get many upvotes with few or no meaningful contents but those with good contents will not even get notice at all.
  2. What advice/tip will you give to those minnows that are posting good stuffs but are not getting recognition at all.
  3. Does your reputation determine the number of upvotes you will be able to get per post.
  4. What's the most difficult challenge you faced as a minnow and how did you overcome such challenge.
  5. Lastly, What are the steps to take to build your reputation on Steemit.

Thanks in advance ma, and as stated above am already on my chair with hot tea and rice with stew (lol).

@nuges. Thanks for your questions and I trust these few lines of mine help.

  1. Steemit is originally fashioned to be a big community embedding sub communities. In other words, it a platform to compete for recognition. So if you don't belong to a sub community and be active there, dear Steemian you will have a hard time getting recognized. There are toned of good articles out there. So not only yours. If you want people to notice you, get into a sub community and, MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, be active within your sub community. Make friends; expand your social horizon by making useful contributions to articles. That way people will begin to recognize you which will now translate to visits and upvotes

  2. Just like I said before. Get into a sub community and be active there. Go to www.steemit.chat and discord and get to relate with people. Devise a means to solve popular problem and I bet you will attract recognition to yourself.

  3. To some extent. Majority of people would rather click the work of a high reputation account than that of a low ranked reputation. The more click the more likely you will get upvoted

  4. Mine was recognition at first. I solved this by not only belonging to sub communities and getting active there, I also create a community and helped newbies to get going.

  5. Publish at least one article per day. Get active within the community. At the start of every week, make a list of people you will pay attention to and ensure you visit their blog every day and leave reasonable comments.

@eurogee

Someone give this person a cold bottle of whatever he likes. I'll pay 😎

lols! He was given MOET! So you can look at my name above and pay to my wallet!!!!!

Hehehe. Ok. I'll be sending it in a jiffy. Lol
