Why didn't Reddit and Ethereum Devs do this first? (quick thoughts from a long time redditor and ethtrader subreddit mod)

Long time redditor, contributor and moderator to ethereum-based subreddits, looking at steemit and pondering how this exists. I've been away much of the summer, so coming back in to see this. Wow! For those who know my /r/ethtrader contribution, I'm not quite back yet. One more month in the field.

Ok, quick thoughts on this Steemit thing that I'm seeing. Reddit teased the idea of hitting cryptocurrency hard, but that faltered. I always imagined this first beta for something like this would have been born out of Ethereum, but no such luck yet.

To be fair, Ethereum devs have been extraordinarily busy, and I wouldn't be surprised if a Steemit competitor emerges sooner than later. Personally, I also would like to see more detail on the steemit dev team and their path forward, much like we've have with Ethereum. Nevertheless, I'm excited to see this vision moved forward and getting great attention. I have no idea if Steemit will drop into obscurity next year, maybe even be deemed a pump and dump. But regardless what happens, I'm truly excited to see a beta version of crypto-based social media platform really get some legs. As a minimum, this rise in attention Steemit is getting could catalyze healthy competition in this valuable area. Regardless, good job steemit devs. Way to shake things up and bring new scope. I'm excited to see what happens next, good or bad.
