RE: Ready Player One: Cinema Review

Great review @thenomad. I just saw this movie last night and agree it is definitely worth watching. You know so much more about gaming than I do so I appreciate the real world examples (EA) to bring it even more to life.

There were a few things that bugged me about the movie like how the threat of any real danger was childishly fake. Reminded me of kids movie "danger" like 3 ninjas or blank check. This was especially evident when Wade takes absolutely no time to mourn the death of his aunt or when Nolan goes into the Stacks with a gun and everybody steps aside. As if there is going to be no one else with guns in the ghetto in 30 years.

Anyway, great movie, the oasis was mind blowing. Loved the story, good characters, T.J. Miller as the bad guy, I mean, I really didn't want it to end. I loved the adventure

P.S. I'm still butt hurt about Firefly too bro

Thanks for the comment. I totally agree about the false sense of danger. And, yes, the non-gun wielding ghetto dwellers in America was beyond unbelievable. Also, when he just didn't shoot Wade because H asked him to was completely bogus, unless he is as spineless as his right hand woman insinuates earlier in the film.
Seriously, soo butt hurt. Their adventures were just getting started aboard the serenity. And, fox still won't sell the rights...
Also, thanks for the name drops on those films. I was trying for the life of me to remember the name of 3 Ninjas just this week in conversation.

I didn't know about fox not selling the rights, that is strange. I mean at this point they are all to old to play the original roles, though that would be awesome.
I am grateful they got the movie in though, little bit of closure

Yes, they wanted a ridiculous amount of money for the rights, something like 300 million. Nathan Fillian (Captain Mal) said he'd buy it if he could afford it in an interview once and people started sending him money. He actually had to ask fans to stop sending him money because he didn't intend for them to try and sponsor his purchase of the rights. It's sad, but yea they are too old now. But, the universe is vast and there could still be some brown coats or revolutionary types skirting the federation out in that big black verse.
Also, yes. Closure indeed. Not what we deserved as a fan base, but it's better than nothing.
