What problem does Quantstamp want to solve?

Quantstamp wants to solve the security problem we are facing with smart contracts. According to the Quantstamp White Paper the end goal of Quantstamp is to be the top auditor of smart contracts. Smart Contracts are not secure unlike blockchain networks. An example of this would be in June 2016, a hacker stole $55 Million in Ethereum from the DAO due to a bug in it's smart contract. The same thing happened again in July 2017, when a hacker stole over $30 Million in Ethereum from Crypto companies due to a one word bug in the smart contract code in the parity multi-sig wallet. Quantstamp believes that these hacks are a serious impediment to wider adoption of Ethereum because the "erode trust" in smart contracts. In addition, Quantstamp says that even when human experts audit smart contracts there is still much room for error. Not only can it be very time consuming it can also be very expensive as well. (Error prone) Another great point is that putting all your trust in one company to audit your smart contract rides on the belief that no bad actors are to be hidden within the company. Also due to the explosion of smart contract adoption, it will be nearly impossible for human experts to audit all of them.

The Quantstamp protocol solves the smart contract security problem by creating a scaleable and cost-effective system to audit all smart contracts on the Ethereum network. The end goal for Quantstamp is for every Ethereum smart contract to use Quantstamp protocol to perform a security audit because "security is essential". To me this seems like a great goal for Quantstamp but may be a little far fetched. I really like this project due to the size of the problem it solves.

I will say, the part that impressed and interested me the most was Quantstamp's automated bounty payout system. this system rewards human participants for finding errors in smart contracts. Quantstamp says that the purpose of this system is to bridge the gap while moving towards the goal of full automation.

The different types of participants are as followed.
1)Contributers
2)Validators
3)Bug Finders
4)Contract Creators
5)Contract Users
6)Voters

Contributors will receive QSP tokens as an invoice for contributing software for verifying solidity programs. The verifiers only need to contribute computing resources and do not need security expertise. The Bug Finders will receive QSP tokens as a bounty for submitting bugs which break smart contracts. Contract Creators will pay with QSP tokens in order to get their smart contracts verified. Contract users will have access to results of the smart contract security audits. Lastly voters, the governance system is very important to Quantstamp. The validator smart contract is designed to be modular and upgradable based on token holder voting . Quantstamp says that this system will reduce the chance of upgrade forks and decentralizes influence of the founding team overtime .

I truly believe that Quantstamp will be a major player in the crypto space. The project solves a very important problem and will make smart contracts safer and more trustable. The team is an all star team withyears and years of experience in the field. This leads me to believe that the project will be in good hands for development down the road. All the information in this article can be found on the Quantstamp website as well as the Official Quantstamp White Paper. I am excited to see what is in store for Quantstamp in the future!
